General Mach Discussion / Need to hire install help
« on: March 24, 2023, 11:46:01 AM »
Need to hire someone to re-install Mach3.

I had to repair my old Syil X4+ CNC vertical mill (Chinese) with a new spindle motor/driver, Ethernet interface (was serial port) and a 6 Axis Ethernet SmoothStepper Motion Board (for Mach3). Using a Windows XP dedicated computer.

I am a hobbyist (not a business) and looking to hire someone to get my mill running again!

General Mach Discussion / MPG with Syil x4+
« on: August 07, 2012, 09:46:27 PM »
The (Syil X4+) manual says that the MPG can only be used in manual mode (which is how it is working). However, this means opening the cabinet, scrolling through the readout on the mill and selecting "manual mode". Then, when done, reselecting "CNC mode", close the cabinet and return to computer (and Mach3) control. Too inconvenient.

Anyone know of a way (short of rewiring or something major) of enabling the use the MPG within Mach3? (pressing tab and using the "MPG" selection does not work - just like Syil said!).

Thanks

Thanks for the explanation. I don't have any idea what TC and EMC TC code are, but I don't need to know other than curiosity.

I changed the G40.1 go a G40 in my post processor just to get rid of the one and to add the other for safety.

Just FYI -
Mecsoft said they added it at the request of users. However, they didn't say what it does.

Thanks for the speedy reply!

The post is the Mach3-Inch (dated 4/14/09) that came with VM 2012.

I'll try asking them what is is all about and post back here when (if) I find out.

Until then I am going to change it to G40

Thanks again

OK, I'm not trying to be a smart ass here, but:

by "unrecognized by the controller" I was referring to the fact that is is not supported by the controller (Mach3).

and by "I can't find any reference to the ".1" for G40" I meant that I don't know what it does and have not been able to find out.

The fact that "I see it in a lot of the code examples here" relates to the fact that from what I see, some other people are using this g-code (G40.1) also.

I had assumed it was used in place of "G40" since there is no G40 command in the opening block - (as I have seen suggested to be good practice to include). However, I am not experienced enough to know for sure and was hoping to bring it to the attention of someone who might, and if so, advise if there is any need for modification.

I realize that this is coded by Visual Mill's post processor. I just makes more sense to me to see if it actually is a potential problem before trying to correct it.

I'm using Visual Mill (7.0.0.85 - 2010 64 bit). When posting the g-code (for Mach3-Inch) it includes in the opening line of g-code "G40.1". I can't find any reference to the ".1" for G40.

G-Wizard Editor says that it unrecognized by the controller, however I see it in a lot of the code examples here.

Should it be changed to "G40"? Leave it alone?

Thanks

General Mach Discussion / Erratic Spindle Speeds
« on: June 11, 2011, 06:43:30 PM »
Still trying to get this used X4+ working properly.

Next problem is that the spindle speed is weird. It works OK in manual mode. What follows is using the MDI screen, "M3 S*********" commands. Actual speed is read from the LCD on the S4+ (which was earlier checked with an optical tach).

I am using Mach3 (R3.043.022 and tried R3.043.038). Settings; PWM Base:1216, Minimum PWM:0%, Steps Per (Inch):10160, Velocity:59.052, Acceleration:47.24, Step & Dir Pulse:0. Pulley settings; Min:200, Max:3600, Ratio:1.

As you can see from the graph there is no spindle movement until S300. At S300 actual speed goes from 0 to 420 rpm. At S500 the actual RPM drops to 220. From there actual speed is is somewhat linear, but not synced or parallel to the "S" speeds.

Any help or ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Johntech,
A couple of things. With the basic version of TurboCad I don't think you get any 3D capability. That only comes with the higher priced versions (I use Platinum Pro just because I needed it for work - about $1,500). I am able to do everything I need with it at work (mostly 2D) and still able to save some $ over AutoCad.

However, I'm not sure that if I were buying a program to use mainly for Cad/Cam that it is what I would chose, not sure it isn't either. To be honest, I'm not experienced enough with Cad/Cam (just a beginner) to know exactly what would be good. I am just using TurboCad because I have it & there is no learning curve for me to use it. Enough learning with the CAM end of the process!

Sorry I can't be of more help.
