General Mach Discussion / Re: Re: Spindle Delay?
« on: June 15, 2013, 02:47:56 AM »
I think the ideal way to handle it is to monitor spindle rotation if you can and continue once at zero speed or desired speed.

Brett

Hello
So, is possible to do this with an index pulse encoder for reading spindle's and a properly config of Mach3?
And no customisation of PP?

I mean, if Mach3 will be able to read the real spindle's RPM, it will can handle these delays automatically?
Where these settings should be applyed? In spindle calibration?
Or some brains should be developed?

Thanks.
Seb

^^ yeah, I agree, but I have to do more research for that :)
thanks

In the past I tried to solve this issue editing the PP of the CAM software
Few years ago I had a modified PP for FeatureCam. A "G4 Paaaa" was automatically added after any tool change and M3/M4 routine.
The "aaaa" value was also automatically calculated by the PP regarding the S value (and of course, regarding the spindle's acceleration)
The Mach's delay values was ignored (set to zero)

I don't know if this method is "officially" accepted but it worked nice for me. The spindle was also an 1.5kw spindle driven by a VFD, modbus/brains controlled
I'm not using Featurecam anymore but I think I still have this modified PP somewhere in my (huge) backups so if somebody need it, please ask, I'll try to find it

Seb

When you have two steppers/ballscrews for one axis and do homing, the homing procedure is separate for each stepper

thanks Hood, really appreciate it your fast answer
could you also tell me if I can use a second LPT adapter for the second G540? without smoothstepper...

General Mach Discussion / Mach3, 6 steppers and... how to?

Hello,

I have a 3-axis mill machine, build by myself and for now it is controlled by a Gecko G540 and Mach3.
My X axis use 2 steppers (X and A as slave) and homing switches for all 4 steppers (X, Y, Z, A)

Right now I intend to make some major upgrades at my machine and I want to have 2 steppers for Z-axis (Z and B as slave)
The Y axis will remain with a single stepper. I also want to have homing switches for all steppers
So, after this upgrade, my machine will use 5 drivers for X, Y, Z, A(slave for X), B(slave for Z).

I want to ask if is possible to use a Smoothstepper in combination with 2x G540.
If yes, I suppose an additional rotational axis could be controlled through the C-axis and I'll have a 4-axis milling machine. Is this correct?

Or, there are any better alternatives for this config? For a reasonable price, of course. :)

And for the next level, how can I add the 5th axis having all 6 axis (in Mach3) already allocated? Will have 7 steppers driving a 5-axis machine!?!

Unfortunately I cannot afford servos, at least for the moment. But I need this upgrade (4-axis) asap...

Any advice will be very useful,
Thank you for your time.

Regards,
Seb

hai ca ma bag eu, dupa 4 ani :)
asa cum zicea si Daniel Moraru cu care m-am intanit de curand, sunt cam nou in bransa, n-am decat un an si ceva... :)
atelierul il am in Arad, in cartierul Gradiste si incerc sa fac cat mai multe "prostioare" :p

cu riscul de a suna a reclama, cam ce fac pe moment se regaseste pe http://htm.ro

si... sarbatori fericite! ;)
