Finally something i can chime in on!  >:D

Me pick me, i know a few tricks...

What Size round / grains will you be using?

For Example a 9mm will have different design/internal baffles to a .338

...any round that will go supersonic will be pointless for sound moderation, you cant silence a supersonic boom

...although you can controll the thermic flash and heat signature slightly with a moderator if your intending to hunt

I have a few suppressors already: a couple 22LR's, a few 9mm cans for my Uzi and MP5, a 5.56 on my M16 and a 308 can for a yet to be determined project. I don't have anything in mind yet, and I'm not too happy with the rifle suppression, but I figured I'd start with 22LR and move on from there.

G-Code, CAD, and CAM discussions / Engraving With CamBam And Mach3...
« on: April 01, 2011, 05:36:36 AM »
OK, when I draw up what I want engraved and then tell Cambam to write up G-Code, it saves the file, but then when I open it in Mach 3 it shows a HUGE spiral around what I want engraved. I know it's something small as it doesn't do this EVERY time but I can't figure out what I'm writing up wrong here. Any ideas?

Is that the same thing as a silencer ?

Tweakie.
Yep...I'm a licensed firearms manufacturer in Oregon. Nothing illegal here and I would post, or ask for postings, of designs. Just wondering if anyone has any tips.

Anyone designed up a suppressor for a pistol or a rifle yet? I'm slowly getting to that, just curious if anyone else has yet.

If you look in the fileset there is a folder called 'Profiles' It has a Mach profile in there already set up for the STDR-4C and the Taig. All you have to do is drop it in the Mach install folder. Look on page 5 of the User's manual for a bit more information. Always feel free to give me a call or drop me an email as well. I try to make things as easy to set up as possible and I'm always around for tech support.

While I'm sure I can improve on the users manual, when you are first getting started out there seems to be about 5,000 pages of stuff you need to read to figure everything out. I just picked up some 'screen casting' software so I can make some set up videos showing the process step by step right as it appears on the PC screen. I think this will help make things easier and seeing something is often a lot nicer than reading about something.

Yeah, I figured out everything...I don't think there's much that could have been done to help me from myself. However, now it's running so I'm happy.

Ha ha I know, I have done that as well ;D

Hood
Yeah...perhaps my screen name should be changed to "Corky". I feel like a heel.

Now I can start playing around and see if I can't make some silencers!!!!

:)

Nevermind. I'm a bit sloooooow. I got it now. LOL. I couldn't figure out why every time I tried to do anything it kept saying "Reconfigure EStop"...I was looking through all the folders to see why it wasn't working. Then I decided I'd try and give the E-Stop a turn and see if it was pressed in. It was. ::)

OK....I got it figured out...Now I just need to configure up the spindle settings apparently.

General Mach Discussion / Can't Get Mach 3 To Work...Running Via USB.
« on: March 29, 2011, 07:49:20 AM »
I purchased a Taig CNC kit from Soigeneris and got it all put together today with the Soigeneris STDR-4C USB 3 axis kit and I'm trying to run Mach 3 from my laptop. I can't figure out how to set the ports and pins to get it to recognize the USB. I entered my USB port address (which is 00001) and it wasn't responding to any commands given. Does anyone have any suggestions to help me get this thing to run? Thanks in advance.

I feel the same way. I just found this forum and this particular thread is like crack! Every time I get an email regarding this thread, I have to check ASAP to see what's next.
