General Mach Discussion / Trip Limit, Causes Spindle to rotate!?
« on: April 11, 2013, 02:13:25 AM »
First off i have this:

http://littlemachineshop.com/3503

Inside that machine, it controls the spindle (DC motor (all factory)) with this board:

http://littlemachineshop.com/products/product_view.php?ProductID=4645&category=

Just plugged it in, using the .xml mach files that came with the machine off the CD (may be old?) dialed in each axis pretty close, but can't get the spindle to turn on by hitting F5, Manually entering MDI/MDA M3/M4 S1000, etc.

Here is the REALLY ODD part!

When i hit the top Z limit switch, the z axis stops, but my spindle instantly starts to rotate! If i try and continue to jog up, it will jog my spindle?! As soon as i jog down off the limit switch it stop rotating.

Can anyone explain this? The spindle under motor setup is not sharing any pins with the other axes.

Really impressed with this little mill, but i can't believe they didn't supply a decent .XML setup for true plug and play operation.

Earlier today, i hade the parallel port address set wrong, and it was jogging multiple axis (xandY) at the same time in one direction, not allowing them to reverse?
I'm using a PCI parallel port add in card, not using the standard parallel port address. I found the correct address under device manager.

Thanks for the help

Thank you BR549. I believe that is how i have it setup, but i just switched screen sets so that may have been lost in the settings? I will confirm.

What is the standard when it comes to g code? If you wanted to lower the spindle to the table would that be a positive z command or negative.

So the probe works, and when triggered the digitize light comes on.

What i can't figure out is how to work the digitize wizard.

It gives a Z- command but instead of probing down to my table it goes up and trips my upper limit switch.

can someone give me a crash coursE?

Refer to post 1565. Shows how to setup probe in mach 3 and using a C48 probe board. You may not need the external resistor. The on board resistor should work, mine did not.

Received my tough probe. attempting to get it to work but the green digitizing light in mach 3 is stuck on. i have the port and pin right, but its simply not responding. Also the red led isn't lighting up when triggered.
I have it hooked to a c48 probe board from cnc4pc.com

cnc4pc.com Touch and Tool Probe W 1/4 Shaft.

Anyone used one yet? I have played around with the auto touch off tool in mach but not the touch probe yet. I want to touch a simple object and plot its points, even possibly get that model into solidworks some how.

Any links, code, etc will be great!

Thanks!

First off, I want to thank everyone who helped me. I wouldn't have figured it out without The amazing cnczone users, as well as the mach 3 forum users. I want to especially thank "Greolt" for his "brain" contribution which has worked perfectly!

Laser Tachometer came today! All is can say is wow! The speed is right on! :) I'll take a video this afternoon.

Also, i would have purchased the converter off ebay but i was sick of waiting haha. The first "emulator" was from ebay (china) and took about 2 weeks to get here. Grainger had it locally for me, and i received it next day :) They are so cheap off ebay i would order an extra just incase you needed a spare in the future.

Never Mind wow! Some one really did there homework because i typed in 12,000 rpm in mach 3 and turned the spindle on. On my VFD i have it set to hertz display on the LCD screen. It read 200hz or half the max value exactly. bumped it up to 24,000 rpm and it displayed 400 hertz correctly!!

I'm assuming the brain is doing all of that! thank you very much for posting it up!! Works flawlessly.

I will have to play with it a bit more and get the hang of it!!

I will have a video of it working posted up this weekend! :)
