General Mach Discussion / Re: Z Axis motor skipping
« on: November 13, 2007, 08:27:06 AM »
Hi Edmond, Try swapping your x axis input with the z axis input(to your hobbycnc board) I f the z axis still skips then it's your hobby board otherwise it's the pc. I suspect that the optoisolator for the z axis might be marginal and is triggering randomly.

Hi Jason, They will run just the same but Mach3 has qiute a few enhancements. Your pc should have about a 1 gig processor and performance seems to improve with more ram.
Good luck

Hi Mitch, orry, didn't see the mention of the Xylotec board. You should be running the motors  at anything up to 20 times the voltage on thier labels (6v will run really well on about 75 volts without any problems) and the amps at spec . Don't run them above the recommended amps or you will get smoke! They will run quite hot at specified amps but don't seem to have any problems.

Hi Jason, I had the same type of problem and found that Mach 2/3 won't run properly on a laptop because it uses clock manipulation to achieve power saving etc. Mach 3 takes some liberties with windows clocks etc and can't handle any clock variations. You will find that it runs like a bomb on a desktop. Give it a shot!

General Mach Discussion / Re: lazycam pro
« on: September 26, 2007, 06:34:05 AM »
Hi Brian, I'll give it a bash and see if it works. It could be the Turbocad save as DXF that's causing the problem so I'll try another cad package to see if it cures it.
Many thanks

General Mach Discussion / lazycam pro
« on: September 24, 2007, 10:25:53 AM »
Hi Everyone,
I,m using turbocad version 4 (free download ) and find that lazycam pro does not seem to undrstand what an elipse is. I save my files as DXF and everything shows except the elipses. Tried saving as HPGL and all was well but scale was nuts. It started with a move about 580 mm and the whole job is about 120 mm. Any help much appreciated

Hi Brett, I reckon I could use a few more inputs......then I could fit a whole lot more switches on my mill!!!! When will it ever end?

Hi, A stepper can operate at up to 25 times the rated voltage but don't go above the rated current (the thing will cook!) If you visit the gecko site you can download a brilliant file about stepper basics, it's well worth it.
