General Mach Discussion / Slave axis going too slowly
« on: September 21, 2014, 09:21:55 AM »
I slaved A to X and X runs faster than A. They are both calibrated the same. Both run the same using MDI without slaving. Both motors identical as are drivers. I swapped the connections coming from the BOB which swapped the problem to the other side. I am at a loss as to the problem.

Running Mach3 Version R3.043.066 thru ethernet smooth stepper, C32 BOB.

General Mach Discussion / losing steps - hot motors
« on: March 04, 2011, 08:24:10 AM »
FWIW - I was having serious problems with losing steps.  I tried everything including adding mechanical advantage to stepper motors, increasing microsteps, increasing pulse frequency, increasing pulse duration, bonding signal cables to floating ground, bonding motor cables to equipment ground at power supply.  Nothing seemed to work until I decreased acceleration of stepper motors.  Apparently the mass of my gantry was overpowering the steppers.  I have my steppers accelerating at 10 in/s/s with top speed of 150 in/min.  Question - My stepper motors whistle while idle and get hotter than a 2 dollar pistol when running.  Is this normal or is there something that I need to do to correct this situation?

General Mach Discussion / Homing Trouble
« on: February 20, 2011, 01:15:20 AM »
I am having difficulty with homing.  When "Ref all" is hit the Z homes normally......hitting the switch and backing off.  The Y hits the switch and triggers a "limit switch active" message.  I have all my homing/limit switches wired in series to pin 10 active low.  The Y and X were homing corrctly until I added the switch for the Z axis.  I disable homing on the Y and th X is doing the same thing......hitting the switch and locking up the machine.  I have the auto limitoverride on.  What in the wide world of sports is going wrong?
