General Mach Discussion / Re: z direction
« on: August 14, 2011, 01:10:44 PM »
Thanks,

I will go and reconfigure my machine , so I can be right from the start.

Eventually I might start to get into the actual routing and shape cutting.

Thanks again

General Mach Discussion / z direction

I know this sound so basic as to be laughable, but do you set up z axis as plus is downwards or plus is up.
I ask because I had z set as plus down, using the write wizard, but now im using lazycam for the first time, its seems to set things up as z plus up.

also I have x and y as 0,0 in the top left corner in plan, is this right.

Maybe i'm missing something, as Im only just getting started.

sorry to introduce such basic questions

Thanks

I've removed quicktime and Itunes. I also changed round the computer and cnc setup, bigger gap between. and it seems to have resolved the problem.
I will run it some more before I close this post

General Mach Discussion / mach 3 stops responding
« on: August 08, 2011, 04:50:37 PM »
I'm still trying to get past basics, but seems to run into a reoccuring problem
After stopping a program, Mach 3 seems to lock me out, but z axis starts to rise very slowly, and I cannot stop it, except by e stop.
I get error message  - Abnormal condition IJ mode is absolute.
The only way I can get it running again is to shut down mach3 and start again
This has also happened part way through a program, without me stopping the machine.
I am running the writing wizard.

Any help would be appreciated

Did you run the driver test as that installs the driver?  Do you have the port enabled in Mach along with an address?
I am assuming that you are using your former xlm file, so if it worked before...should work again if the above was done.

Hi Rich,

Lost me with this lot. Its a while since I downloaded it, so I think it may be best to uninstall and start again from scratch.

Its not that.
Also I notice on the diagnostics screen,  port 1 Pins current state, none of the boxes are highlighted green

i purchased a small cnc with mach 3 several months ago and got it all working OK.
Now after a long break I have connected to a new computer, but cannot get the Mach 3 to respond, either with the CNC connected or without. I cannot even perform a simple jog.
Obviously Ive overlooked some very simple setting or switch, but I am tearing out my hair just to get started
HELP PLEASE
