General Mach Discussion / Re: Right settings form CNC3040??
« on: August 28, 2017, 03:53:26 AM »
Hi
I have a Yoo machine working so if the previous reply doesn't help I am happy to send you my settings.
I did find the touch off probe was wired the wrong way. so suggest you manually touch the probe to the tool (WITH NOTHING GOING) to see if yous is ok.
Let me know if I can help.
Is it a parallel port unit or something newer?
Cheers Rob

Can anybody please help me with this ?

I have been running my converted Morbidelli U50 for some years basically as a single spindle unit, although I had previously got all the devices working in test mode from the Mach 3 command line. I recently created some G code calling one of the extra devices and had a potentially serious problem of the drill momentary becoming active and if the Z axis was not well clear of the work at the time it would have been a crash.

Please note that this is not a Z axis issue as the Morbidelli has Pneumatic cylinder/solenoid on all devices to keep them out of the way until needed. It is a bit like the old pen plotter ‘pen up’ or ‘pen down’.

I am using ‘SetUserLED’ commands in custom ‘M code’ to drive the extended outputs on Mach 3 running a Vital controller and am having a problem when loading ‘G code’ that will be calling one of the custom ‘M code’ commands containing ‘SetUserLED’ activation (on) e.g. “SetUserLED(2022, 1)”. The device will momentary pulse on with potentially dangerous results. When running the ‘G code’ the custom ‘M code’ behaves as is desired. I have incrementally tested and ruled out all but ‘SetUserLED’ activation. Thus I do not believe this is a Vital issue, I feel it is something to do with my use of ‘SetUserLED’.

My current code looks like this

“Rem M136.m1s
Rem Drill 16 X Axis Line
message " "
code "G59 P136"
Rem - Turn on Drill - Mach 3 Output Port # 1 Pin 16
ActivateSignal (output16)
Rem - Turn on one of 6 Way Matrix - Mach 3 Output Port # 1 Pin 18 to 23
SetUserLED(2022, 1)
Rem - Turn on one of 8 Way Matrix - Mach 3 Output Port # 1 Pin 24 to 31
SetUserLED(2024, 1)
Rem - Pause to allow drill to speed up
sleep(1000)

Any help would be welcome. :)
Cheers Rob

dspMC/IP Motion Controller / Re: Servo motor inputs to Vital DSPMC
« on: May 11, 2012, 05:22:05 AM »
Hi All
Thanks with your help on this. With the information you gave and a chat to a friend Russel who is a professional CNC electronics specialist we got it solved. Two of the motors are running at Max seed the third is down a bit but above the level that Morbidelli used on the Tria 6000 controller.

Rulphi suggestions on the am26ls31 chip was spot on. Alas due to my knowledge level, I assumed that there would need to be discrete componentry added to it to make it a functioning unit. Russel told me to wire it up as it is and to connect the unused input ether hight or low so I did.

Thanks “mrprecise44” for your comments. The design is working but yesterday when I connected the belts there is some cross talk between the axis’s, which is changeable by how I position the fly leads. So today I have purchased some Screen Cat 5 cable and will re do the interface paying close attention to screening.

I have attached an interconnection diagram to help others reading this post.

Thanks to you all.
Regards Rob

hi
Apologies. my spelling is atrocious alas
I meant Converter units as converting from single ended to differential encoder wiring.

I know a CNC machine guru who can design and make me an interface but he is very busy so if there is an of the shelf unit it may be more appropriate.

Hi Rufi

A Big thanks for your prompt and helpful reply.
Do you have any suggestions of over the counter units that have been used successfully?

dspMC/IP Motion Controller / Servo motor inputs to Vital DSPMC
« on: May 02, 2012, 06:07:36 AM »
Hi all

I am having trouble getting the servo motors on my Morbidelli U50 retrofit with Mach3 and Vital DSPMC running over 7Meters / Minute. According to the maths they should be capable of 40M/Min the old controller had them running at 30M/Min max.

The encoders are 500 CPR (2000 QCPR) single ended going into positive terminal of the DSPMC. I saw in a post “Tuning dspMC with Axis Works.
« on: December 23, 2008, 10:14:51 AM »” that “Totallyrc / Mike” asked the poster

“4.Are the encoders differential or single ended with converter board?”

Do I need something like this "converter board" on the input to the DSPMC ?
If so any suggestions?.

Also any user settings for the PID would be useful.
I am running about 4000P 0I 100000D 100G

PoKeys / Re: PoKeys 10.6.2 (got the ADB sequencing correctly)
« on: February 04, 2011, 07:55:53 PM »
Hi again
I have replaced PoKey firmware 2.1.17 and still not working.
Using Mach MAD and for example.
setting 3 buttons to 1710 ULED will control 3 different relays. Look at attached jpg to see.
I hope someone can help.
cheers Rob

Hi
I am running Pokey Firmware V2.1.15 Sept 14 2010 and latest I understand is  2.1.17
Is that the problem?
cheers Rob

Hi

I am having problems with the Auxiliary Bus - any help would be appreciated  :)

The Auxiliary Bus can be accurately and repeatedly talked to in the PoKey Set-up and Test Utility program.

But when in Mach 3 and one sends out OEMLED numbers to activate and deactivate an Auxiliary Bus output one gets semi random assignment of the LED. The interesting thing is that in the screen set PoKey.set configuration screen - Auxiliary Bus lamp display screen that shows a matrix (of 8 horizontal by 10 Vertical lamps) confirm what is appearing on the actual relays is happening exactly the same on the screen matrix.

As both the Mach 3 software display and the relays are in unison. It discounts (I hope) it being an electrical problem of bits being lost in the shift register and puts it I believe in the Mach 3 Pokey Driver area. What do you think?

Supporting details
The main axis controller is a Vital Ethernet DSPMC/IP
Pokey Mach 3 plug in 10-6-4
Mach 3 Version R3.042.040
Refit job on my Morbidelli U50 (hightechcarving.co.nz)
9 Auxiliary Bus boards fitted
