I finally got my machine up and running and now my M6 command will only work one time. I know the Mach3 I have now is a newer version than when I created the macro. Did something change that it will no longer work now or any ideas why this is happening? Other command still work and everything else still works, just the M6 stops working after once use. Nothing but a computer reboot will make it work once again. Restarting mach does not make it work again, and even restarting the smoothstepper and then restarting mach will not make it work again. A reboot will though (once).

I built a new computer and am now useing an ethernet smoothstepper.

For some reason on my new setup my tool change M6 command will only work 1 time now.

It works just right the first time you input it and select a tool number. After that I just get an annoying beep everytime I put in M6.

The only way it will work again is to restart the computer and then it only works once again. Restarting Mach does not make it work again and shutting off mach then resetting power to the smoothstepper, then restarting mach again does not work either. Only restarting the computer will make it work one time again. 

Any ideas? Other codes will still work after this, it must be something with all the new stuff and my macro. Everything else seems to work in Mach, but a second command of M6 does nothing.

I am not sure why they are using the Pokeys to notify mach that the E-stop has been activated. The only reason I can think of is that they are saving inputs for other things.

I could pull the wires that go from the e-stop to the pokeys, and put them directly to a real input and then set that input as the E-stop. This might solve the problem, but I don't fully uderstand how pokeys is using port 0 pin 10 for something yet...I also do not know if there is a reason they are running it into the pokeys. Maybe they have a reason besides less wiring and a saved parallel input?

I did set the Chargepump back to where it stays on based on some other reading I came to the same conclusion as you above.

Is there a reason the smoothstepper needs to know that the E-stop or reset is pressed? My real E-stop kills everything, so as soon as you hit that the drives etc are dead. This means whatever the smoothstepper tries to do after that is pointless. However, maybe it needs to know when the reset button is pressed and that is why that message pops up? If none of this is important, then why not just turn off the message (I believe there is a way to do that)?

I figured out how to make the reset button initiate an E-stop condition. There is a "Charge pump On in Estop" selection box and it was checked. So, I figured that part out. Only now I am not sure if it should really turn the charge pump off when you hit reset since I do have an external E-stop?


Now I have to assume that the reason I am getting the "ESTOP not assigned to a Ethernet SmoothStep​per Input!" error message is because my E-stop using port 0 pin 10. It appears the Pokeys in my Machmotion control panel is being used to report to mach that the real E-stop button has been activated. The real E-stop kills the machine regardless (which is a good thing, but Mach should know about it).


So, based on this I am not sure what I can do but turn that smoothstepper message off. I need Mach to see that the real E-stop has been pressed, which takes up that input selection so I cannot have 2 and send one to a real port that the smoothstepper would know the E-stop was pressed?


Any ideas? I would like for the smoothstepper to know the E-stop was hit rather than just disabling the message (this does not seem like the best idea).

Everything seems to be working with my Ethernet smoothstepper except th E-stop.

I get "ESTOP not assigned to a Ethernet SmoothStep​per Input!" everytime I hit it.

There is nothing written anywhere that tells me how to assign the E-stop to a smoothstepper input.

When I Start Mach, it fires up my machine and when I exit, it turns it off. Hitting the reset does nothing as far as acting like an E-stop and truning off the charge pump.

I have looked for hours and read every document I can find and there is no clue how to set this function up.

All my axis and spindle, and home switches etc work fine. It is just the Reset (E-stop) that does not work.

My real E-stop switch on the control panel kills my machine, and even tells Mach that it happened and causes the reset button on screen to flash. However the E-stop is hard wired into the breakout board, so I suppose that is the only reason it is killing the machine.

Any ideas?

It is alive again! Thanks to an Ethernet Smoothstepper!

No more OS limitations, mach driver issues, or parallel port card! I am using 64 Bit Win7.
 
I mounted the smoothstepper in the computer case and used some computer case mount parallel ports. This way I did not have to do any changes to the rest of my machine and the breakout board hooks up the same as before. The board is also powered off the computers power supply (500W so plenty to spare since I am using CPU/MB video).

My whole machine is designed to power up off one button press on the front panel. This button hooks to the power pins on the computers motherboard. Once the computer powers up, the rest of the system is activated by the computers power supply using relays etc. Works great. I also have a USB port on the front panel, HDD indicator LED, and power indicator LED. So, you can load your programs with a thumb drive etc. and there is no reason to get inside the cabinet or mess with the computer seperatly to run the machine.

Now I just have go through and double check all the settings and stuff and I am back to where I left off a year and half ago when the computer crapped out and I lost interest. I have a good feeling I will cut something soon!

Thanks to those that offered up suggestions even though the mach driver just would not work with my setup. The smoothstepper is the way to go (from what I see so far).

A working PC would have been cheaper than the SS.

I don't want to mess with old terd computers and XP. I choose to have a modern computer. The aggravating thing is, I built one that should have worked with Mach. I actually could have saved money by not having to make it take an outdated PCI card (spent more on the motherboard). This computer runs cooler, is lighter, smaller, no platter HD to fail, draws less current, faster, etc etc. Much better than any computer you could get for the price of a smoothstepper. It should feed a smoothstepper quite nicely. I also sold my old computer for $175 shipped :) . With the smoothstepper I should have a more reliable pulse stream as well. It gives more benefits than just working like a parallel port.

Mach will have to evolve sooner or later, more and more people want to use newer computers. Some people aren't interested in dumpster diving for an old computer when you can by a pretty fast new one for $300 and a good portion of the used ones are starting to be 64 bit Win7 machines. Remember...Win7 is even old now :) XP is ancient.

No, it takes over, pulses up a bit and then just stops. Pulsing too fast is not really the issue even though that is what is left on the display. Sometimes it will blip up for a sec and turn green before it dies.  It won't pulse a stream at all. It just spits out a little and then dies. I am not messing with the Mach driver anymore, I already put 64 bit Win 7 on and I am putting in a smoothstepper (Ethernet).

Yes. It is supposed to work on 32 bit Win 7 with parallel ports. It will work on 64 bit, but not with parallel ports (have to use external motion controller).
