General Mach Discussion / Tool Change Problem
« on: January 27, 2012, 02:34:21 PM »
This has been an ongoing issue for me and I usually solve it by editing the code.  Today I did a drawing and forgot to edit it, and ended up with a crash.

Say tool #1 is 1” long and tool #2 is 2” long.  When it stops to change to #2 tool, Z goes to the safe Z of tool #1.  Once I change the tool and hit start the Z goes way below the safe height of tool #2 and crashes into the part.  I don’t know if it is a setting I changed in Mach or if I need to edit my post processor.

I am attaching the code I used with the hope that someone may see something I don’t.  I have no issue until it gets to the spotting drill tool #75.

Thanks

General Mach Discussion / Ajax&tool height setter
« on: November 30, 2011, 02:42:50 PM »
I am running the Ajax setup with the DC3IOB&MPU11, while I am in the cabinet hooking up the VFD I would also like to add in a simple tool setter with PCB board.  The MPU11 has a probe input but I am really unsure if that is what I should be using or another input.  The Ajax instructions say nothing about a tool height setter just the probe and I am lost when it comes to all these port&pin configurations, I read Tweakie’s page on it and it was helpful and know I am ground to the chassis in 2 of the probe pins but just not clear on what is what, where I should enter pin numbers or who knows what else I am missing.  I have searched on the Ajax forum with no luck.  Any help would be great.
Thanks

General Mach Discussion / VFD and vari speed pulleys
« on: November 22, 2011, 07:25:16 PM »
I am getting ready to install a VFD on my old supermax vari speed mill running Mach and would like a little advice and or suggestions about getting rid of the vari speed drive and going with direct pulleys.  The motor is a good 3 hp 3 phase and I have read I can get more RPM’s out of it with the VFD, 99.9% of my machining is aluminum so besides the occasional tapping head low speeds are not that much of an issue

What I don’t know is what kind of ratio as in 1 to 1 and what diameters I should be looking at for the pulleys, also a good source to get the pulleys.  I figure there has to be a few others out here who have done this and wouldn’t mind sharing the good, the bad and the ugly about doing it.

I am sure I will have a few more questions when I get to installing the VFD but I would like to do the whole job at once so any help will be appreciated.

Thanks.

General Mach Discussion / Tool radius compensation
« on: August 10, 2011, 06:35:43 PM »
Hi,
Say I am interpolating a hole that should be 1 inch diameter.  When it is done the diameter is .999 what would be the best way to compensate for the difference?  I have tried several things but short of changing it in my cam program I am not having much luck.

Thanks

General Mach Discussion / Servo sizing help
« on: March 19, 2011, 09:19:39 PM »
I am wondering if someone might be able to help sizing a servo motor.

I am hooking up a 4th axis using and older Haas 5c indexer.  I am running the Ajax cnc setup for Mach and need to use a brushed DC servo.
I have 117 VDC in the cabinet already but can add another power source if necessary.

The indexer takes 72 revolutions of the drive shaft to go 360 degrees
I already have a 5:1 gearbox and can use either nema 23 or 34 frame or just make my own to fit if needed.
What I don’t know is what size motor or RPM I need to get the proper torque and speed?

Any help would be appreciated.
