General Mach Discussion / 3D g-code need
« on: August 05, 2009, 01:41:42 PM »
I am looking for someone to write a 3D g-code. I have a 2D autocad drawing. I can send a picture of a finished piece. I have been looking for a 3D cad cam program all day but at this time everything I have found is over my $500.00 budget. I am only looking to do this one code for now, a simple foam carving. There is a ramp in the front about 4" long, 2" flat and a ramp on the end. It is 6" X 20" rectangle.

Although we have had some good advice from Hood we are stilll baffled.  We are cutting a part from 1/4" Lexan using 1/8" bit on both machines.  Feedrate on the router is at 65 and on milll at 6 and spindlle speed is 24,500 and 3500 respectively.  Both parts are coming out nice but they do not match.  We have done extensive testing on the router and feel that we are okay with basic motor tuning, machine setup and so on making us think we have something wrong in the MACH3 setup but can't find anything with our limited experience.  We are using MACH3 on a mill, router and lathe and until now have been able to get what we want.
The router is cutting this 7.5" X 3.75" (approx) part about 1 tool width smaller than the mill cuts it.  We are using the exact same Gcode on both machines witht he only difference being feedrate.  Circles on the part cut very well. As the cut proceeds along the part the error seems to increase but this is difficult to track as the code has the cutter moving around the part quite a bit.

Any suggestions would be appreiated.

General Mach Discussion / Problem with Router not cutting consistently
« on: April 09, 2009, 07:43:38 PM »
I have bought a 2X4 router and have completely rebuilt the machine it was very cheaply made. I was cutting ovals and it looked like I chewed them out (polycarbonate). Now I can cut a perfect (by eye) circle and it has a very smooth finish. One more problem to overcome, I hope.
I am cutting polycarbonate. I am cutting two pieces that are to be assembled to gather. This is where the problem lies. The two pieces do not line up; the gears that go inside don't fit. I took the g-code and cut the pieces out on my CNC milling machine and they are perfect. So I am assuming this eliminates the g-code.  Info on the router; Mach 3 – steppers - rack and pinion - Bosch palm router.   Can anyone point me in the right direction of where to look.

General Mach Discussion / Problems with SPINDLE CW F5
« on: January 29, 2009, 11:40:52 PM »
I have just bought a CNC router. It came with Mach3mill. The problem I am having; I can turn the router on with SPINDLE CW F5 on the program run page, then I press it to turn the router off and it does turn the router of but the switch continues to flash yellow and I cannot turn the router back on without pressing the reset button. The same thing happens in a G-code. I also have a milling machine with Mach 3 that works very well and has had no problems.

G-Code, CAD, and CAM discussions / I need to cut 3D!!!
« on: August 23, 2007, 09:37:40 PM »
I am using a bench top vertical mill with Mach 3 and lazycam. I am drawing with AutoCad. I am not capable of drawing in 3D with autocad. What I would like to do is cut ramps-slopes in foam. I am willing to invest in new programs if I need to, but I would like to do it with what I have. Is this possible?

I am trying to make a clamp to hold a ball about 3.5" in dia. So I would like to make a bowl shape in a peice of wood for the top and bottom, (a mold). I am having trouble getting started. I am using Mach3, Auto CAD R14, and Corel draw X3, on a vertical mill. Could some one point me in the right direction?
