Mach4 General Discussion / Re: mach4 gui failure
« on: March 21, 2015, 04:03:04 PM »
csherrit,

Do a google on atioglxx.dll.  You will see that later versions of this caused problems with earlier ATI/AMD cards when running some, not all, software.  Answer appears to be to use an older version.

Hope this helps.

daniellyal,

It's not a motion problem, it's an error in the displayed value of the acceleration expressed in G units.  When you enter a value for acceleration on the motor tuning page, the box to the right of that should display the acceleration in units of G.  If you enter 300 units/s/s and you are working in metric units (mm), the displayed value should be 300/9800=.0306.  Nothing to do with pulses, steps per unit, maximum velocity, just a translation from units/s/s to G.

In M3, you can enter either G units or units/s/s but, obviously not both as they are not independent values.

G values are nice in that they give one a quick feel for the forces acting on the table and any vices, work, jigs mounted on it.  An actual acceleration of .77 would require very high forces be applied by the motors.

Certainly.

Firstly, I suspect the actual movement is okay.  It's the displayed acceleration value in G units that appears to be wrong.

I set both the setup units and units mode to metric.  Then in the motor setup setup tab, enter an acceleration value of 300.  The displayed acceleration value shows .77 G.  It should be 300/9800 = .0306.

If I assume the 300 is inches / s /s, I get 300 / (12 x 32.2) = .77.  Therefore, I think the acceleration calculation in G units is not switching to metric.

Restarting M4 or the computer does not change this.

Sorry for dragging up an old problem but I'm still seeing wrong acceleration values in the motor setup page when setting up M4 for metric.  I'm using the latest M4 V2214 and Darwin 2209.  Selected metric for both machine setup units and units mode.

I have a question that was asked on another thread last May but apparently never answered.  I want to set up my Jog-it pendant.  The setup and operation of the jog keys (X+, X-, etc) is straight forward and works well but the choice of functions to map keys to is limited to just those.  Can the list of functions be expanded to include others such as jog mode, jog increment, reset, home, etc.?

Art,

Thanks.  As you can probably surmise from my last post yesterday, deleting the driver was a last minute idea as I was posting.  I verified that it fixed the version problem.  The license issue went away after I used the right license file.  Sheesh.

Everything is back to normal (except me).

Thanks.

Thanks Art.

I uninstalled everything then installed M4 V1.2192 and Darwin V2209 ('manual' install).  Now I get a Darwin -33 license failure.  Do I need a new license?  M4 seems okay.  I did put the Darwin license in the license folder for M4.

When I installed Darwin 2209, it said the versions were still 1.21 over 1.19.  Do I need to go into the system drivers and remove Darwin there before reinstalling?

Art,

I installed M4 V1.2192 and it played nicely with Darwin V1.2178.  When I installed M4 V1.2214, things broke.  I couldn't jog and homing only worked on the Z axis, sort of.  I reinstalled M4 V2.2192 but no joy.  I uninstalled everything and reinstalled M4 V2.2192 and Darwin V1.2178 but things are still broken.  Then I noticed that Darwin shows version numbers 1.21 over 1.19, not 1.21. over 1.23.

How do I force Darwin to update?  Is there a version for M4 V1.2214?

Also, Darwin calculates the frequency for pulsed inputs but whether or not Mach4 can make use of that I don't know.

I am also interested in a spindle RPM DRO.  Please keep us posted on your progress.

Scott,

Sorry for the delay in sending this but I only just got power/cable/internet back after a storm.

I truly appreciate your efforts in this.  It will prove very valuable in getting me going towards understanding mcLUA and writing my own scripts.  Without it, I would have no idea of what functions have been included in Mach 4.
