Mach4 General Discussion / Re: Mach4 Printer Port Discussions

Art,

I installed the latest Darwin you just posted and it fixed the buffer problem as you said.  I am running XP Pro on an old Dell Optiplex with no graphics card.  Everything still seems to be running fine.  This is my mill system and I use it for M3 and M4.  It also has a firewall program running (scans and updates set to manual).  I have been expecting it to crap out as insufficient but, not yet.  I haven't run process explorer to see CPU loading but running seems okay.  I do not run Gearotic on it, that is on a different system.

Hope this helps you and DanL

Yes, so that the IT guys aren't driven crazy when MS decides it's time for all of the enterprise's computers to be updated.  It allows for an orderly corporate roll out.

We peons, on the other hand .......

If it were only that simple.  Unfortunately, when Windows goes looking for updates, it brings the system to it's knees whether it can connect to the internet or not.  Prior to W10, one could just disable automatic checking.

Besides, it's nice to be able to connect to the design system to get G code files.  Sneaker net is so 1990.

I'd be concerned about W10 having the authority to determine when it can check for updates and download them.  Stuff like this can cause havoc.  I see this as a killer for Mach on W10.

At least with XP, I can determine when I want to check, download, and install updates.  PS, yes, I still get updates for XP.

Did not know that.  I just go to the latest posts.  Given there are a huge number here, I don't start at the beginning.   ;)

It might be helpful if the latest were to be posted under the latest M4 download.  Or maybe that's NOT the latest download.   ;D

Sebastian,

FYI, the latest version of Darwin that I've seen is 2461-a and was uploaded by Art in post 762, May 20, 2015.  The one shown on the Mach download page is very old.

Mach4 General Discussion / Re: Mach4 Homing & Darwin Issue
« on: June 11, 2015, 11:09:23 AM »
Sebastion,

It`s not a code issue.  As you point out, you`re using the parallel port.  And homing works, I use it all the time.

That said, you seem to have covered the setup issue I asked about.  Does jogging within Darwin work okay?

Since I favour the simplist answer to problems, I suspect the culprit is related to the other problem you have posted about.  That one does look suspiciously like a license issue.  Be aware that sometimes updates to M4 break licensing.  What versions are you using for M4 and Darwin?

Hang in there.

When you set up the motors in Darwin, did you remember to specify the home signal for each motor?

Steve,

Thank you for the reply.  I figured since G31 was working, the motion plugin was not at fault.  Maybe it's a mapping issue.

20,000 Axes,

I'm not making a point cloud or setting tool heights.

daniellyall,

What's coming?  G31.X support or what 20,000 Axes is trying to do?

ger21,

Can't see any recent related postings by Brian on the Yahoo group.  Can you provide a pointer please?

Thanks all.
