General Mach Discussion / Re: Z Axis key board input
« on: December 30, 2016, 12:55:46 PM »
I connected the PC to my old CNC Router and everything works, Z moves up and down NO problem. So I'm sure it's not the p/port RS232 plug. I change the stepper driver with the X driver. Without a change in the Z working right. Checked all connections, everything is tight. I must admit I am at a loss where to look next. If I could get the Z axis to run up & down the way it should I would have a working Joe's EVO. Haven't tried any G-code to see what would happen.

Tweakie,
Please clarify. What is the "external motion device which can be purchased very reasonably"? And where would I look for them? I'm trying to sale my CNC Router and building a Joe's EVO CNC. I have a PC I can use on the EVO but it is 64bit.

General Mach Discussion / Z Axis key board input
« on: December 29, 2016, 09:39:57 PM »
I'm building a Joe's EVO and ran into something I've never seen before. I have been using Mach3 for about 5 years on a diy wooden 'Black Toe' CNC Router that has been running without a problem using Mach3. I have the X & Y axis working very smooth. But the Z axis is acting strange. When I input the up key the Z goes up, pressing the down key will move the Z down, sometimes. I say sometimes because pressing the up key sometimes the Z will go in the wrong direction and vice versa.  ??? I thought it might be the keys sticking on the key board I'm using, but I don't think so, because if I use the "Page Up" & "Page Down" with "Num Lock" I get the same problem.

Hi Theakie
Not sure about the video card but there are 16 GB of RAM. Never had a problem with the toolpath in the display.

Hi Tweakie,

Yes I use:  Mach2/3 ATC (inch)(*txt). Also I'm using screenset 2010 so I'm able to do the tool change.

EDIT[/u]  Perhaps thoroughly check your Gcode to make sure that your post-processor is not inserting some codes which are not properly recognized by Mach3.

I am using Aspire 8.502 to create the gcode so there shouldn't be any code that isn't properly recognized by Mach3.

Thanks Tweakie.

This is a bit of a long shot.... are you logged on to windows with a non administrator access account?

Can you go into the mach3 folder (c:\mach3\), then select view by details, and select sort by type...

Go down to the exe files, and left click on each one, and select run as administrator...

It's a long shot, but worth 5mins try.... windows may be blocking the running of something  because your account settings do not have administrator rights or something is up with your antivirus being over zealous...

Sorry, running out of ideas

Hi Robert,
I'm running my CNC router with a PC that I built using Windows7 as the OS so I'm pretty sure that everything has administrator rights. But I will go through Mach3 and double check it. It's worth a look.
Thanks,
Gene

No not using a motion controller.
