dspMC/IP Motion Controller / Re: Glass Scale Input
« on: June 12, 2011, 01:05:56 PM »

I'm still confused. In section 7 of the current manual (Mach3 SW Integration), sections 7.2 and 7.3 show the mapping of DSPMC pins to Mach 3 I/O. Nowhere is listed the J6 quadrature encoder inputs.

In the screenshot shown on page 34 of the manual, it shows the Mach3 Ports and Pins configuration, with the Input Signals tab selected. At the top of the list is the X++ and X-- inputs. I'm assuming I need to assign those to the J6 encoder pins. But since there is no mapping of the DSPMC J6 connector, I don't know what to put into the table for the encoders.

Do I need to configure these inputs or will the plug-in take care of J6 for me?

I have the same question for teh Encoder/MPGs tab. It lists the 4 encoders, and it wants port and pin numbers to be assigned, but I don't know what to put in there.

Ok, very good. Thanks for the answers Mike.

Thanks Mike. Is there anything I need to configure in the plug-in to make that work or does it do that automatically by the fact that the DSPMC plug-in is present?

The reason I ask is that as you know, Mach3 has both encoder inputs and DRO inputs. So somehow, it needs to know to use the encoder input for the DRO.

dspMC/IP Motion Controller / Glass Scale Input

I have an Acu-rite system that I am retrofitting with DSPMC and Mach3. An Acu-rite system does not have encoders on the motors. They use the glass scales as the motion feedback. I have connected the glass scales to the DSPMC encoder inputs.

Problem - how do I also feed the glass scale outputs to the Mach3 DR0? Can the DSPMC do this for me?

General Mach Discussion / Re: Acu-rite Glass Scale Position-Trac Coding

Thanks. Those two links are  big help. The Heidenhaim link is enough to get me going. Acurite was no help, which I don't understand. How can they sell a product but not have a tech sheet explaining one of the features.

Yes! That is it. It would be great if you can locate it. I've been searching with no luck.

I want to do it from a cold start, when the controller has no idea where the table is. That is the purpose of the Position-Trac coding. When you boot up, the controller doesn't know where the table is and with Position Trac, it can determine the absolute position of the table by reading the Position Trac coding.

Good idea. I don't have my DSPMC yet, but that sounds like it would work.

But I'd like to take advantage of the absolute positioning and not have to put in limit/home switches. I'd like the controller to read its current position and then know directly from that, which way to go to get home.

General Mach Discussion / Converting a Shuttle Pro Mechanics
« on: September 23, 2010, 05:25:56 PM »

People seem to be happy with the Shuttle Pro, but I'd prefer a different mechanical package to make it easier to hold and change button layouts. Has anyone taken one apart to see if it can be repackaged?

I'd like to replace the buttons by tacking wires on to the pushbutton locations and using new buttons on a new housing. Can I make the width smaller?

Does anybody have a picture of the inside?

Thanks,

Understood about Mach. I'm using a DSPMC controller with Mach that is closed loop. I'm posting here just in hopes that someone has come across this and has the information.
