General Mach Discussion / How do you manage the display window?

Can I zoom in on the disp[lay window? Change the jog follow back and forth? I thought I saw a video on it. Thanks, Mike

Very nice, what do you use for engraving tips? Do you grind your own?

I primarily use mach3 for engraving several lines of text. When I purchased it, it was to use the Text Wizard. I've recently had to replace the pc that Mach was loaded on and now, of course, I've forgotten the steps to the Text Wizard. If anyone can help, I'd sure appreciate it. Thanks, Mike

I forgot to re-introduce myself. At the time I bought Mach, I was teaching auto service at a local tech school. I ran a firearms manufacturing business from my home and finally got fed up with paying someone to engrave my products for me, especially after numerous times of their machine "crashing" and damaging my work. I'd have to weld up the damaged parts and have them re engraved and the guy would not cut the price. Last time was on a rather expensive part, in the 15,000.00 range and I took it and left. I bought a sherline 3 axis milling machine and then a stepper motor kit and board kit from Hobby CNC (great stuff) and experimented with several programs. Mach was definitely the best so I bought it. I went full time firearms and moved my shop. I finally got around to the cnc machine again and after setting it all up, the pc will not start up, error after error. No go. DANG!! Fortunately, the owners of ArtSoft had a record of my purchase and gave me Mach back at no charge. What great guys, you don't get that kind of service anymore. So, I load it, install it and it's been upgraded so many times I don't recognize the screens anymore and am having trouble getting it to go. I finally got motion (smokeless motion that is) and am on the way to getting it running again. All I use it for is engraving a few lines of text so the Text Wizard is my primary interest.  So far, you all have been very helpful to me and I sincerely appreciate it. Getting this thing up and running is my primary goal right now and I'm confident that I'll get it done. So, my name is Mike, I'm a firearms suppressor (silencer for hollywood types) manufacturer, I'm a hands on guy and love electronics and building things. I'm happy to be here and look forward to your help!! Thanks, Mike

General Mach Discussion / Re: Help needed, old user, new program....

Thanks, it seems to me there was a place to enter your leadscrew TPI, I have yet to find that again, I've been reviewing the users manual for some time now. Also, according to hobby CNC, the board setting pinouts are as follows:

       2=X dir 3=X step 4=Y dir 5=Y step 6=Z dir 7=Z step 8=A dir 9=A step 10=Limit 11=A home 12=X home 13=Y home 15=Zhome 18-25= Ground All others are not connected.

     How do I configure "home" with no limit switches? Also, under the Input Signals tab, I'm not sure what X++, X-- mean?

    I'm hoping to have an epiphany and all will come back to me!

 Thanks again,
    Mike

No, the machine does not nor has it ever had one. I've got the motors jogging but am having troublr "fine tuning" them, in other words, jogging an inch does not translate into an inch of movement. I'd like to get this part worked out first, then I'll worry about validading and running a code. Thanks for your help, Mike

There are settings I don't recognize, I figured out the X,Y and Z step and direction pins as well as the home pins for all three, I assigned ground pins but don't know what to do with the E stop. On the hobby cnc board, there is no input/output designation for that. It may seem trivial but all I need to do is to engrave lines of text using the text wizard. Even it looks different, I can enter the text but when I hit "write" and then return to mach3, there is no code generated. Is there a "help" just for the text wizard?

General Mach Discussion / Help needed, old user, new program....

Greetings all, I had run Mach back in 06-09. I moved mt shop and recently set up my machine again. Unfortunately, my computer I drive the milling machine with will not start up. Artsoft was kind enough to look up my purchase history and provided me with a copy of the new Mach3 but it looks different from what I was using. I cannot get anything to work either, of course. What I have is this, a sherline 3 axis milling machine with Japan Servo Stepper motors, KP56LM@-097, a Hobby CNC 3 axis board and of course, Mach3. I would appreciate any help you guys can provide. MAn, I remember running all of this stuff just a couple years ago but I guess this is what happens with age. Thanks..
