General Mach Discussion / Moving to another PC
« on: May 25, 2012, 11:01:07 AM »
I know it can be done, I think I was told to save an transfer an XML? Is this correct? When I look at the folder called XML, there are a bunch of XML's in there. Do I copy the entire folder? Or better yet, can someone give me or point me toward a play by play of transferring to another computer? Thanks, Mike

I've got a sherline type 3 axis milling machine that I added the cnc controls too and it works well. I'm wanting to add the 4th axis rotary table but I'm not sure of a couple things. Do the stepper motors have to be the same as what's on X Y and Z right now? I see a few of these things on evil-bay and I'm wondering if M3 can drive them if the stepper motors are different from what I have. I know I'll need a 4 axis control board too. Any input? Thanks, Mike

General Mach Discussion / Looking for angles on single lip cutters
« on: September 25, 2011, 01:01:32 PM »
OK, I finally purchased a cutter grinder. I think the instructions were translated from japaneese to chineese to english. What I'm trying to figure out are the actual angles of a single lip cutter. I primarily use 30deg cutters with .005 tips. What I'd like to know specifically is the angle of the tip itself and the clearance or back angle of the cutter. Any info is certainly appreciated! Thanks, Mike

It's 79 bucks and I'm wandering if it's any good or worth it? Thanks, Mike

General Mach Discussion / Looking for some advice on a project
« on: September 03, 2010, 01:50:43 PM »
I'm doing a job for the local VFW hall, they are going to present a shotgun to one of their oldest members who is a Veteran of Iwo Jima. I'm going to do the engraving for them at no charge but I 'd really LOVE to engrave an image of the Flag Raising photograph by Joe Rosenthal. I'm looking for advice on turning an image like that into line art that I can make into an engraveable .nc file. I have a nice flat area that would look absolutely amazing with that image on there.  Thanks in advance,
 Mike

General Mach Discussion / Help with a .dxf
« on: August 23, 2010, 10:45:15 AM »
I've got a .dxf file I HAD working to engrave. I lost my PC and had the file transported between pc's so may times I can't get it to work. I'm looking for someone who might be willing to take what I have left, look it over and possibly repair it into a clean dxf again. I use this for engraving on the side of certian firearms, when you see it' you'll recognize it.

 Thanks,
  Mike

G-Code, CAD, and CAM discussions / Repeat program and step down question
« on: August 22, 2010, 04:37:09 PM »
Hello, I am using 2Linc's engraving software to generate Gcode for engraving text. It appears to be standard Gcode that I can import directly into Mach3 as an nc file. It works well.  How do I repeat the program and step down .001 on the Z axis per program repeat? Thanks, Mike

I primarily use mach3 for engraving several lines of text. When I purchased it, it was to use the Text Wizard. I've recently had to replace the pc that Mach was loaded on and now, of course, I've forgotten the steps to the Text Wizard. If anyone can help, I'd sure appreciate it. Thanks, Mike
