General Mach Discussion / V carving using Mach 3
« on: May 06, 2011, 12:42:56 PM »
I really hope that someone here can help me get this set up right.
I have a problem with v carving and I think that it may be the mach software.  If i try to v carve a name for a sign I get real a cut that takes a considerable amount of time and jerky motion out of the machine .  I have tried every thing that I know and I have never been happy .
I am cutting on a shopbot machine with an acension control box using mach 3 R3.042.040
windows xp sp3 1 gig ram
Is every one else doing v carving that they are happy with?
Is there a check list of settings that need to be verified?
I did have better results using the old shopbot software even though it was slow and  noisey.
Any help would be helpful

General Mach Discussion / Automatics z zero
« on: April 19, 2011, 10:25:34 AM »
Does anyone know if it is possible to have the cnc move to a specific location after a tool change and "automatically" zero it's self in the z direction?  I have an Acension control box. Can this be modified in the z zero routine?  We use a z zero plate now.
Thanks for your help

General Mach Discussion / Mach 3 vs Shopbot vcarving
« on: July 10, 2010, 11:20:39 AM »
First of all V carving for us is awful.
I am using mach 3 v 3.042.020 with an Ascension 1000 control box. We converted to this from a shop box PRT around 2006.
I have finally got our arc cutting smoother by turning off all the CV settings and adjustments but the v-carving is another story. I am using the Archs inch PP. We had smother v carving cuts when we were using the shopbot controller and software. I have noticed that the files created for the shopbot PP uses a M3 command that allows the router to "lift" smoothly out of the corners. The code generated with the Mach3 inch arcs PP does not use G3 G2 commands it only uses G1 commands for v carving unless there are curves in the fonts, bit the straight portions and the "lifting" out of the corners are real " jerky", not smooth and flowing like I the Shopbot code.  Does any one have any insight?

In our general config settings , motion mode is set to Constant velocity and Distance mode is Absolute and the IJ is set to Inc. CV controls are all unchecked and the Settings Alt 6 page that has the Angular Limit CV is turned off

thanks
