General Mach Discussion / Motor chatter
« on: April 24, 2011, 11:25:23 PM »
I am having a hard time getting my motors tuned in. no matter what i do they chatter at low speeds. if i change the tuning so they move faster. they run great. and they will move very fast. but slow. they chatter and stutter and make all kinds of noise.

 Any suggestions??

General Mach Discussion / Re: Spindle pulley setup?
« on: April 24, 2011, 11:37:30 AM »
I don't want to hijack this post but i have a question about spindle pulley setup as well. I am using a dremel tool or later a trim router as my spindle motor. as i understand it as this is direct drive the pulley should just be 1 correct?

and then do i set the min/max as the min max of the motor?? I guess i need to figure out what the min speed the motor will run at is?? i think the max is around 30,000 rpm

General Mach Discussion / Re: Minnesota Mach3 Users?
« on: April 24, 2011, 11:34:56 AM »
I want to wish Millnturn the best of luck on his move and new surroundings!

And with that I am once again looking for someone in or around the MN metro area with Mach experience that would be willing to lend a hand with setting up the basics of mach such as motor tuning, understanding microstepping etc. basically all the step 2 type stuff. I have all the hardware working and now need to get into the tuning part.

Thanks

ZC

I have made significant progress in getting this finished. the new motor controller is almost done. i have it running at the moment and have been working out a few details while i wait on the new front panel for the motor controller to arrive. it should be here in 2 days and then i can get the last of the controller done!

Mill tuning next. then a revamp of the mill table system...I might actually be able to start making chips in a year or so LOL!

Feature Requests / DVD or downloadable tutorial videos
« on: April 23, 2011, 08:24:39 AM »
I would love to be able to order a DVD of the complete set of tutorial videos! or be able to download them all so I could make my own DVD.

I don't have very good internet access where my machine is and it would be nice to take a portable DVD player or laptop out by the machine and watch the video and work on the machine at the same time.

and just FYI, the audio quality of those videos could really be better. it is very fatiguing to listen to the mic pops and tinny CB radio quality audio for very long.

Feature Requests / 3X parallel ports
« on: April 23, 2011, 08:18:11 AM »
I would imagine this would be a relatively easy thing. but i would really like to have access to three parallel ports! I currently have a dual Parallel port card in my machine and Mach does a great job of letting me have access to both cards. but i would still like to have access to more pins without having to resort to a USB device. I have a 3rd port just sitting there unused and i would think that it would be something easy to do to allow Mach to have access to those pins as well???

Feature Requests / Re: Multi Monitors and Mach3

YES! Multiple monitors has become something i can't live without! I would love to have a triple monitor set up for Mach3!!!

I am having trouble using pins 1,14,16 and 17 as output pins myself. One thing i learned is that there are 2 different printer port settings in BIOS for some computers. SPP or standard printer port or ECP for enhanced printer port.

Looking at the wiki for the parallel port there are some differences between these two settings. i have no idea if this has anything to do with it or not? I need to try both of these on my own machine and see if it makes a difference. but it is an easy thing to try.

General Mach Discussion / Re: PWM VS Pins 2-9
« on: April 20, 2011, 10:54:40 PM »
I built a custom motor controller that takes the PWM signal, opto isolates it and feeds it to a IC Mosfet driver and then to a power Mosfet to control the spindle motor directly. works great! But i want to use Pins 1, 14,16 or 17 to output the PWM signal.

I have a dual Parallel port card in my PC. and i tried both ports and same deal.

I need to output the pwm signal to my custom built motor controller.

I looked at the SuperPID units and the units i saw are not PWM....Pulse Width Modulated. they are a traic based controller. how are you interfacing the PWM signal to the SuperPID??
