General Mach Discussion / license on 2nd computer/encoders
« on: September 26, 2010, 09:25:28 PM »
I downloaded license to mach3 folder on 2ND computer but it is still running in demo mode.I am running a second computer and monitor to display encoders . The encoders are on the stepper motors which are closed loop between the motors and drivers. Will encoders  show up for display even in demo mode? I will also use this computer for a back up and I am concerned that I can't retrieve the license agreement if something happened to the 1st computer. Thanks,Tommy

Hood, That being the case I can use what I already have, and that's a good thing.I am glad to see you recommend XP over W7,I have enough new stuff to learn. I have a custom cabinet shop and hope to be able to cut parts. That's how I justify building it,but the truth be known I love projects and machinery so it seemed like the thing to do. With work a little slower now it will also give us more option . Thanks for your help again (this is my second question and you also answered the 1st) Tommy

I am looking at a new computer just for running a 4 axis cnc machine using a smooth stepper. Does the speed of the processor effect how Mach3 will preform? I understand it will run on 1Ghz, but will it run better on 3.3GHz. Does it matter if it is a duo or quad processor? What about ram, would 4GB or 8GB be better than 2GB? I will be use Windows7. How about the video card,512,any suggestions? I want to make sure I can get the most out of Mach and my machine without going overboard. I am very new at this so if has been answered before just point me in the wright direction. Thanks,Tommy

General Mach Discussion / Stepper moves 1/4 turn then stops
« on: August 27, 2010, 05:13:03 PM »
I am set up on a test bench.I connected my 1 st stepper motor, configured it in mach3 and everything worked fine. Then I started going thru mach to get familiar with it .I must have pushed a button that I shouldn't have. Now when I push the left or right arrow key (they both act the same but in opposite directions) the shaft turns 1/4 turn then stops, when I release it it turns another 1/4 turn then stops. The shaft is a geared output shaft,7.2-1 ratio,so I guess the motor is actually turning 1.8 rev. before it stops.I did get an over load alarm and had to reset my driver. Can anyone tell me what I should do to correct this and get back to the motor turning properly. I am very new at this! thanks Tommy

NO PROBLEM,I AM BUILDING A CNC WITH ALPHA STEP CLOSED LOOP AND MACH3.JUST THOUGHT IF SOME ONE ELSE USEING THE SAME STEPPERS AND CONTROLLERS COULD PASS ON HELPFULL INFO.

HAS ANYONE HAD ANY EXPERIENCE  USEING MACH3 WITH ORIENTAL MOTORS,ALPHASTEP CLOSED LOOP STEP MOTOR AND PULSE INPUT DRIVER?
