General Mach Discussion / Help with G41/G42 lathe
« on: June 08, 2011, 03:33:17 PM »
Hello,

I am attempting to use tool nose radius compensation for the first time in my lathe, but I am getting a strange behavior.  When tool nose radius is set at 0 everything works fine, but when a typical value such as 0.8mm is entered there is a strange behaviour (please look at graph in attached photos). Anyone out there knows what can be happening?

Thanks,

Jorge

General Mach Discussion / Index pulse in Lathe
« on: April 18, 2011, 01:08:50 PM »
Hi all,

I am testing my lathe with threading.  My index pulse is generated by the machine original encoder.  The signal is fed to a bb board where it is supposed to be properly conditioned and then on to Mach.  The RPM reading seems to be accurate and stable.  But when I do threading the thread cut is not repeating its trayectory.  I have used both the G76 cycle and G32.  Any ideas what could be going on?

The fact that there is a an RPM reading makes me think the signal is o.k.  My threading is all within max feed limits.

Thanks,

Jorge

General Mach Discussion / Power Supply +Se amd -Se sigal
« on: January 24, 2011, 10:11:06 AM »
Got a used power supply from an old CNC control and intend to use it.  Besides the usual 110VAC, 12VDC and 5VDC terminals it also comes with terminals labeled +Se and -Se.  Could anyone of the electronics experts out there please give me a brief explanation of what are the purpose of those?

Thanks,

Jorge

General Mach Discussion / Tool Turret for Lathe
« on: October 18, 2010, 09:56:30 AM »
Hi all:

In the process of retrofitting my CNC lathe I need to solve the turret problem. From the turret base to its center there are 80mm.

The lathe comes with a Sauter Turret which is 25 years old. It has a 380 V  A.C. motor. If I was to use this turret I would have to install a transformer to raise voltage from 220V to 380V. I would also had to figure out all the logic so that I could program it with the PLC. The turret is unidirectional.  An alternative would to replace the A.C. motor with a servo. This can be messy mechanically.

I have also checked for new turrets. I have asked for quotes to Sauter, Duplomatic, Dorian and Pragati. So far I have only got firm quote from Pragati in India. The turret (w/o the disk) sells for about 1000 USD which to me does not look expensive.

Does any one had any experience with Pragati, or have any ideas regarding this subject?

Thanks,

Jorge

General Mach Discussion / Feed Hold
« on: October 02, 2010, 11:36:45 PM »
There is a noticeable lag between the time I hit Feed Hold button and when I see the axis stop (say when an MDI motion command with G0 or G1 is being executed). This may be dangerous when too close to the part. I have tried the same with Stopfile, and the axis movement stops almost instantaneously (as it should).  Any ideas as to how to get the feedhold command to react faster?
