All I can suggest is try re-routing your wires.
I'd maybe try disconnecting everything but the probe wires, and see if it works then. If it does, then start adding components back in until you see a problem.

Ground loops can be very hard to diagnose and fix.

AS I said, most people with this issue never even see the LED.
It's not that any of your components are bad, you probably just have bad ground loops causing interference.

Remove your probe wires from the breakout board, and replace them with short (2-3") wires. Then run the macro, touching the wires to simulate the tool touching the plate. I'm guessing that it will work fine.

Extremely unlikely. The fact that you're seeing the LED flickering means that noise is triggering the input Typically, this happens so fast that you don't even see the LED. Yours is apparently far worse than most people that have noise issues.

Have you changed anything at all from when it was working? What kind of spindle or router are you using?

You can't use the printer port in Windows 8.

When Mach3 starts, there are 3 different rotating splash screens that you'll see.

Did you try grounding the electronics to the metal case?

Did you ground the shield on the wires?

Are you seeing a message stating that probing is complete? If so, then it's almost certainly noise.

I doubt that re-installing anything will make any difference. The only way that would help is if there's a problem with the M881 macro. I've never heard of that happening.
You could try creating a new .xml file from scratch and see if that makes any difference. I have seen .xml files go bad. But I don't think it would affect the operation of the macro, but I guess it's possible.

I don't really know a lot about electronics, but I think it's either .01uF

In a lot of cases, users add a capacitor across the input if the wiring change doesn't help.

Most likely, noise is triggering your probe input.
It's been the case in 100% of users who see this or something similar.

USB to parallel adapters do not work.

Mach3 will run on Windows 8, but the parallel port driver will not run in Windows 8.

If you want to use Windows 8, you'll need an external motion controller like the UC-100 or Smoothstepper, or one of the many others available.
