FAQs / Re: I have an IPM problem
« on: October 21, 2010, 05:06:46 PM »
Since Art changed the driver to LOCK ON to the kernal freq this is how it is been. That I know of there is NO way around it. Most computers are closer to the kernal rate BUT a few are slower and throw the feedrate off further.

Just a thought(;-) TP

IAN I don't see any way to do a VB based direct write TO the modbus registers. You can only do a direct read FROM the modbus register to mach

The only way I see is to write  thru the autopolling method. I do know that works fine as that is the basis of the pendant I have.

Peter could tell you for sure. OR possibly SCOTT. I forgot about Scott.

I see your point. (;-)

I used to have a good pendant that was Modio it worked great UNTILL someone changed something in MACH and it never worked right again.

What did not work about the send serial, that is an 8bit transfer.??

G-Code, CAD, and CAM discussions / Re: Image To Gcode
« on: October 21, 2010, 10:52:38 AM »
YOu need a raster to vector convertor. A good FREE one is INKSCAPE. It can take a raster image and do an outline tracing of the object AND save it out as a DXF file.

UNLESS you are ALREADY drawing in a program that ouputs as a DXF as an option

Then you use a CAM package to convert the Vectored drawing(DXF)  into a Gcode file. I use SHeetCam alot for simple CAM stuff. Cheap and easy to work with.

IAN look in the Mach wiki under Mach subfunctions it gives the basic VB  commands and syntax to talk to a modbus device. It shold be what you need.

Ian , you need to contact Peter Holmann designer of the MODIO system  he is a Modbus Guru.

Last I heard the new Plugin Modbus is broken and no imediate plans to fix. The OLD serial system still works LAST I USED IT.

Seems most abandoned modbus for USB.  Shame really as MODBUS is one of the MOST used protocalls and USB well it is just USB(;-)

I can round up some info on the VB side for you if needed.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Using Mach as a camshaft measuring device
« on: October 21, 2010, 10:09:09 AM »
IF you are not using a lifter face model to do the measusuring THEN you WILL have to translate the points into a value based on the lifter face not just a indicator point on the lobe.

Hum somethings amiss  you will except 1 deg accuraccy for rotation but need .00005 for the displacement?????  your jerk data will be all over the place.

NOT knocking your idea, it is a noble thought to build your own stuff. BUT reality has to be factored in somewhere and a reasonable expectation brought into play.

Just a thought, (;-) TP

I just tested a simple version AND it works fine so far at 10 sec intervals may can go lower.

Hope that helps, (;-0 TP

Hum may have found somthing that works,

Set up a brain to do a timer for ay 20sec then trip a led.

In the macropump If it sees the LED on write the LineNum to a file then turn off led.

The brain takes some of the load off of VB/cpu and speeds it up a lot. It may not get you the exact line you failed on BUT it will be very close.

MAY work, worth a try.

EVEN at best you will only get a collection of points not a profile(;-) IF you are serous to the .00005" you need professional equipment. AND it is not cheap.

NOTE: You cannot get repeat .00005 accuracy without a climate controlled room.

BEEN there Done that, (;-) TP
