General Mach Discussion / Re: Determing proper cutter

Some of us cheat a bit with unknow files If you set up the tool offset in mach then simulate the code Mach will TELL you(error) about the tool too large for radius (;-)

Just a thought, (;-) TP

The G16 works just like it is suppose to work(;-)  It is very specific as to what moves you can make AFTER the G16 is invoked. You are making G16 moves outside the sub then trying to get the G83 to run correctly from inside the sub. It aint gonna happen that way Sorry(;-) You cannot split the moves across the two sections of Main/Sub routines.

Some Gcodes are produced with cam that adds in the tool info for you as a reference. SOme people acutally addd it in as well to hand written code.

(tool1, .375 2f FN)       tool1 is a 3/8 diam 2 flute flatnose cutter

When that is not available then you must check the code for the smallest radius cut. Then select a tool that is smaller than the smallest radius. Otherwise Mach will error about using too large of a cutter. OR if you are manually tool changing then you will Gouge the part and have a miss shapened part that is not to spec.

Hope that helps, (;-) TP

General Mach Discussion / Re: tool offsets when writing your own gcode
« on: April 26, 2011, 06:19:44 PM »
OK , IF you have an 8 tool  changer then you only have 8 slots available to use when running code.

To use the offsets the PROGRAMER must apply the offsets via Gcode  G43 applies the height correction and the G41/42 applies the inside and outside radius correction.

To use the tool change you must add the tool corrections to the tool table  tool1 will be slot1 tool2 will be toll slot 2 etc etc.

Once the tool table is up to date on all 8 slots then you tool change code and offset code can use these values for correction.

BUT you are the one responcible to add the correction via Gcode.

M6 T2              tool change for slot#2
G43 H2             appllies the height correction for slot#2
G1 Z0.000
G41                  applies the Radius correct for the current tool (tool#2)
G1 X1Y0            required leadin to comp the tool.
working code

Hope that helps,  I would suggest the Peter Smit book for more info.

I only declared them the one time that is REQUIRED to use the G16.  SOMEWHERE you have to tell it the radius offset AND  the rotation angle.

THe X value in the G83 defines the G16 Radius offset and the Y defines the G16 polar offset JUST like it is suppose to do. (;-)

Here is an example of using the G16/15 in a sub program.  It drills 4 holes on a 4" radius 90 deg apart starting at 3 0clock from X0Y0

#1=0
G0X0Y0Z1
g16
M98 P1 L4
G15

g83 X4 Y#1 z-1  r1   F100

General Mach Discussion / Re: Spindle pulley setup?

The beauty of using Feed/Rev is it takes no math to do it.

If I were tapping a 1/2 X20 hole you would simply

G95
G84 X0 Y0 Z-1 F[1/20]
G80
G94

I normally use Feed/ Rev in tapping cycles. Much easier to keep track of.

Just a note the SYNC Spindle function is broken in MILL. If you use it the G84 cycle will go nuts.

(;-) NO  Mach will turn the spindle at teh correct speed. Set your Pulley2 to run 55 - 666 rpm  Mach will do all the conversion for you.

When you switch to pulley 2 mach will use those settings to correct the spindle rpm and the motor will still run correctly.

Switch gears then change pulley settings that is all you do. Mach will do the rest.

I use a macro that I put in the Gcode at tool change times so IF I need to switch gears the macro will apply the correct pulley# to match the speed range required
