General Mach Discussion / Re: SetParam Commands
« on: January 07, 2016, 03:40:01 PM »
Because Mach3 does NOT save a parameter change until Mach3 closes you may want to consider doing an XML file update from script after you script in a parameter change Otherwise what you update may not be what is actually saved on close .

Just a thought, (;-) TP

That odd here the large files always start at the top IF you give it enough time to completely load and make it thru post test of the code. I just did another 3,000,000 + line file to test. That file took a while to create and a while to load and be ready to run but it started at the top. There IS a pause when it has loaded but still working on the posttest of teh Gcode and may look like it is done but it was not.

Try it again to see IF you wait it will eventually rewind to start.

You would not be safe in assumming that as Some CAN be updated and some are ONLY physically changed as mach3 shuts down. The actual parameter may not change untill Mach3 is reloaded and it loads up the XML file.

Also you have to account for teh size of teh Mach3 buffer some things are only effected after teh buffere is emptied some efffects are immediately on teh buffered data.

I would NOT assume anything but make actual tests to confirm it. I can however tell you that the Steps Per CAN be changed if Mach3 is in a non motion state such as NO gcode program loaded as I do just that in one feature I use. That is NOT to say it will work IF teh Gcdoe is actualy loaded and has been started then stopped.  It may NOT work if data is present in the buffer. Mach3 has MANY odd modes.

The wizard will NOT give you ANY option for you to save the file. To save the file you must do that from  Mach3 . With the file loaded you use edit Gcode and then Save as.

HUM,  i am not exactly sure why you are asking for linux CNC  help on the Mach3 forum ????? Shoudl you not be over at teh LinuxCNC forum ?? I dought you will find much help here.

The file size is controlled by teh size of teh object being scanned and teh resolution of teh scan. The smaller teh stepover the larger the file and the larger the object the larger the file.

i have tested it here and do not find anything wrong with it. You open the Wizard then fill in the values then create the code and return to mACH3 . THE CODE IS THERE ready to run all 16,000+ lines. I then reopen the wizard put in the changed values and create the code and return to Mach3 and the new code is there ready to run. All 28,000+ lines.

I then did it again and created the code and it was in Mach3 as well all 3,000,008 lines.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Physical buttons for plasma

HIYA Hood I use a floating Z switch and G28.1 BUT teh G31 will work equally as well and does have a couple of advatanges IF you refhome the machine. IF you are doing very light guage cutting you may want to consider an Ohmic touch off system as it does not flex the sheet goods on touch off. BUT keep the Zswitch as a safety back up to teh ohmic as the Ohmic is not always 100% certain to touchoff.

IF you are cutting thicker plate I see no advantage either way for what you are needing.

The Mach3 license is good for 10,000,000 lines of code. The Digitize wizard does NOT have a code limit nor does it require another license.  oBviously you have done something wrong in programing the wizard IF you are expecting more lines of code. Post the parameters that you used and I will try it here to see if it limits it here.

Chances are good that whatever you programed into the wizard does not require as many lines of code as you think.

IF you appose to buying licenses you may want to take up programing , but that is not free either.

When Hood starts using it THEN he will understand the want/need of special buttons and functions. Even the Conversational SHAPES page to be able to cut common shapes to size without CAM is a great helper for one'sy twosy's . Then when you really need 5 of those the offsetright/upbuttons come into play. To cut the 2nd part you selct which direction to offset in and it auto positions it to teh edge of the last cut and you simply push teh GO button for the next cut, repeat until you have 5 cut . In most of those cases I can have them all cut before you get off of teh Cad/Cam drawing board.

Teh rotation really shines when you have to cut 1 part from a previously cut sheet that has room left on it but not in teh orintaion needed to fit teh part. That is when IF you could rotate the toolpath  say 10 degrees it would fit perfectly . This saves a lot of time over redrawing it in cad/cam to fit.  AND yes IF you could easily rotate teh sheet you could cut it but large sheets do not rotate far on a table. The reason for leaving it in large sheets is it is much more stable laying on the table that a small sheet.

BUT those are the things you learn with experience. You will love having the table when you need it.

ONE note , put it as far away from any machine tool you have as possible. a seperate building /room is best .The micro metalic dust it puts off will eat your Mill and lathe slides alive and in a short time. Once teh slides get contaminated it is almost impossible to get them clean again. The dust imbedes into the metal and is very hard to get out.

That same metalic dust will also KILL an electronic control board/PC  in short order.
