General Mach Discussion / Re: Physical 'Cycle Start' button
« on: October 11, 2011, 11:45:49 AM »
Probably would not be hard to fix the mach3 ver to add a few more buttons to run macros. It is just a call to a function number (277) to allow it to run the called macro.

Just set it up to the same number of inputs in teh HOTKEY setup config window.

Just a thought,(;-) TP

There is a provison in MACH3 to use 1 button and run a macro from it. You only get 1 though.

Swanner that is a SPECIAL version of MACH created and maintained by the MCB-1 group . THEY are the ones you really need to be asking. You are just creating confusion asking those questions here.  WE have no idea HOW they have created their SPECIAL version.

Really not fair to ask here, (;-) TP

Feature Requests / Re: Add -Z limit calibration

Another thing to check is it could be as simple as a slipping coupler on the motor.Tighten it up JUST in case.

We are not offended(;-) But you have to realise everyday we hear about the same thing . MY strangley created machine is messing up can you make the software fix it for me so I don't have to bother to fix the machine.

The normal main 2 reasons for lost/gained steps is Random noise and too high accel and or velocity. There may be times in the code that you hit the perfect storm so to speak and it looses a step or too. OR gains a few due to noise.

THe Z axis is the MOST miss engineered axis in DIY CNC. In most cases it has to be Much faster than XY just to keep up with changes(3d type work). SO when you have it the same as xy then MACH3 has to OVERSPEED(design wise) the Z in order to keep up and lost steps can crept in.  I have seen MANY machines that all it took was changing out the Z feedscrew to a much courser screw and the problems disapear.

NOW NOISE is a totally different matter. Ground loops can get you as well.

When it does this quirk does mach3 say it where it is suppose to be and the machine is JUST in the wrong place??

A simpler approach would be to install a linear encoder on the z axis and have mach3 monitor it as a limit device. Then IF the machine wondered outside the set machine limit, trip the limit.

Best approach is still to fix it. What good is the machine IF you cannot trust it?what if the switch fails and you machine a NICE hole in the table?

General Mach Discussion / Re: Motor tunning

I think Hood hit the nail on the head.

The motors are rated at 120v X39a = 4680 watts of power

You are running them at 50v X20a = 1000 watts of power.

IF the machine design NEEDS that 4680watts  to work correctly
then 1000 watt may be causing the problem.  Following errors the motor can no longer keep up to the demand.

YOU COULD gear down the feedsTo get more torque BUT you then loose speed.

BUT at least you can run the machine and do work. It just may take longer.

Just a thought,(;-) TP

IF you repeat the test at 3" does it repeat ok each time??  IF so then it SOUNDS as if you have a feedscrew problem IT is not consistant and has ERROR in the manufactoring of it. ERROR in the grinding of the screw. OR you may have a GIBB problem in the table itself. A very well known problem in the low cost china made stuff. It is LOW COST for a reason.

You may be able to use the screw MAPPING function to work some of it out.

YOu would have to back up a ways in versions to have that function. That I am aware of NO it cannot be changed in the later versions.

Why not FIX the machine so that YOU would not NEED the crutch?????? EVEN whith your scheme you cannot detect lost steps ON THE FLY so really what IS the point.

Do a serach for ROgers machine and their encoder board  function to detect missed steps ON THE FLY. THAT is a way to do it . BUT it still will cost more than to just FIX the machine.

""block is about 3''is a 76.2mm I told the machine to go the distance 76.2 machine is not reached at this distance I had to move manually it about 0.51 more, that indicator showed me a zero """

OK that tells me either your steps per unit  is wrong OR you are loosing steps. Calculate the % of error of the move then adjust the steps per by the same amount and try again. IF you repeat the exact test 10 times will it be consistantly off by the same amount???

The test you did shows and error of .67% (.0067) so you would need to raise the Steps per from 400 to about 402.68

If you can get the accuraccy to be constant with a steps per adjustment then you have your answer. IF it still comes and goes then you are loosing/gaining  steps from another part of the process.  TEST(repeatedly) and eliminate 1 thing at a time.
