Hey HEY, I 'll argue that point I HAVE made toys with Mach3 . Ask my grandchildren they'll tell ya.

I think we have already had this discussion in an earlier post.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Probably simple but...(G-Code help)

Robert you are missing teh point with plasma on accelleration and the speed of teh Z.  With a plasma mcahine that cuts in the range of 200 IPM you MUST set the axis acceleration values as high as possible to help prevent rounding of teh corners. Cutting at low speed 20-30ipm it is not a probl;em but at 200+ is is a big problem.

The Z HAS to use a slap and go method because with an acceleration curve the event would be over before teh Z could move far enough faste enough to envoke a change.   The process would lag way behind the events.

The is NOTHING wrong with it and is only limited by what speed can be used without loss of steps OR you run it fast enough to create an overrun in each direction which causes a sewing machine effect in teh Z axis. THAT would depend on how fast teh THC can react to make corrections.

NOW as to the Z homing speed there is no way to run the Z faster than the Axis parameter values using the G28.1 Ref Home.  The machine will only run as fast as the max vel and acceleration will let it in both G0 and G1. You can set G1 as fast as you like BUT it will not use over the Max setting for G0.

G28.1 can play a dual roll. It simply sends the machine back to the switches, trips it then backs off the switch and CAN set an offset position or simply leave it at Zero.  OR simply use a predefined position.  The G30 will always send it back to the switch position.  Those 2 processes are backwards to a normal Fanuc based CNC where G30 would be the variable position and G28 the exact home switch position.

With THC control ON there is no such thing as max Z vel. THere is only a settable  base speed based on a percent of Rapid speed.  The Z in THC mode can not even get close to teh Max Vel setting as defined in setup  Normally it is about 25% as the fastest useable speed and that is because of teh slap and go event. In that motion the Acceleration is the KEY value not Vel. Most moves are only going to be a micro move anyway so there is really no way to reach MAX vel on each commanded move.

THe CNC plasma cutting process is ALL about constant velocities when cutting  and acceleration is KING.

Just a thought, (;-) TP

Also varify that you are useing tools that are end cutting. There are those that are NOT.  Also try a tool that has a point or a ball end. That coul dhelp take out some of those forces that tend to push and pull your backlash or flex around.

With the road runner code I do not believe there is any Code in it to turn on the spindle. It is just a test code for motion.

Max normal length for USB is 3 meters. You CAN go longer IF you use an amplified cable up to 10 meters. That type cable is a repeater to extend the signals.

USB2 yes
USB3 I dought as there was no such thing when MAch3 was created. Check with your Manf of the controller as Gerry suggested

He is using a teh Candcnc THC control. That THC only controls THC up /down, Ark ok and  and Gap inhibit of teh THC/down. Mach3 controls teh piere delay and uses the ark ok signal to start motion.

IF it is stalling on teh Arc ok signal starting motion something is a miss in Mach3.

Check that teh Gcode is NOT issueing a dwell on pierce.

Check your M3 macro for the proper start code for the torch.

Check your Spindles config to make sure there is NO spinup delay .  Reset teh value to ZERO and then resave and restart Mach3

Then if that did not work the next thing I would do is repalce teh XML with a known good backup OR rebuild a new XML from stratch.

Also your Microsteps are way too high to be practical . It should be set for 10 at most.

A axis is angular

Steps per are in degrees

To test set teh A axis to A0.000 then call a G0 A360 and the A should physicaly make 1 exact rotation.

The G04 P0 is not needed . All you are doing at that point is emptying the buffer.

Define G0 as being vicious. Either the machine can do a G0 move or it cannot Which is it ???

The reason Z is screeching is it is loosing steps  Find out why.

IF the Machine cannot return exactly from where it came from then it is either loosing steps or the Step resolution is course enough to not allow the last step to move precisely and you come up a fraction of a step move short. TO be made up on the next move.

There is nothing in the button code that should effect Z. What it does is

ZeroX
ZeroY
Regen toolpath
Save Corrds to G59.254

Try reloading a backup XML or create a new one. You may have a currupt XML. Also double check your Gcode to make sure there is NO pierce delay causing it. Have you changed your kernal speed lately ???

Unless you are cutting at about 150 IPM your RPM is way to fast for that cutter. What feedrate are you cutting at ??

HOW that would be used in a part program would be like

(Program #10001 )
G40 G80 G90 G54
G0 X0 Y0   (Move to a ref point)
G0 X10      ( Move to first drilling location)
M100        ( call Driller cycle)
G0 X20
M100
G0 X30
M100
G0 X0 Y0  ( Return to Ref point )
M30

etc,etc
