General Mach Discussion / Re: Stepper motor acting funny

I would suggest that you FIRST clean up your PC.  I would reformat teh Drive and reinstall XP then MACH3 and nothing else.

THEN retest your machine. I think you may find it will be  fine then.

IF you recode it with lines insteadd of arcs then it should work correctly. The bug was with ARCS and tangential control.

Just a thought, (;-)

HIYA Rick You also need to understand that the G90.1 and G91.1 are modal . If you set it once it will stay there until you reset it . The config page values are just for startup modes so that MACH# will startup in a preconfigured mode as you define it to be.

A cam or OP can program arcs in many different ways so WHen you DO you also have to specifc to MAch3 in Gcode teh Modes you used to do teh arc be it INC or ABS or Inc IJ or Abs IJ or any combination of teh mentioned modes.  When you program the arc YOU also have to tell teh control HOW you did it so it understands how to MOVE as you intended.

As long as you never CALL to change it it will always be the same as config. But once you call it in a program it switches to the Called mode as they are modal calls.

The problem with G90 G91.1 is there were BOTH internally placed in teh same modal GROUP. This was actual a BUG that was never fixed. So that being you cannot call both on the same line as one will be ignored.

AH the  first mention of a SmoothStepper (;-)  What you are seeing appears to be a smoothstepper problem NOT a mach3 problem. You might want to check over at teh SS forum for help on that.

What you may be seeing in G18 is the difference in settings for turn ?? where G2/G3 can be reversed.

Also in Radius mode you MUST be carefull about the amount of arc swing when doing arcs approaching 180 degs as there are situations where teh Radius format will create a WRONG arc based on teh code. That is WHY IJ mode was created it fixed the math problems that are associated with Radius mode arcs.

General Mach Discussion / Re: THC Problem

DID you not check to see IF the USB card DID THC before you bought it?  MAYBE it does  and you don't have it setup correctly ?? Check with the OEM that sold you the card.

You CANNOT use a USB to LPT adaptor either  . It has to be a USB or Ethernet motion control board that HAS  a Mach3 plugin so that it can run Mach3. The plugin is UP TO teh Manf of teh Motion control card not Mach3. SO IF they support THC then you will have it if they do NOT support THC then you won't.

Yes I am telling you that teh USB THC would be VERY slow compared to teh LPT. With USB functions your THC controller has to signal teh Motion controller then the motion controller has to signal MACH3 to do a THC move THEN Mach3 has to plan it and then talk BACK to teh controller to tell it to move Z. THAT takes time.

WITH the LPT version Mach3 sees teh THC signal at kernal speed and responds directly the LPT port. It happens in uS not mS.

I do believe that is a bug in the current versions. It will never be fixed. You MAY be able to back up enough version Numbers to find one that it did work correctly.

Mach3 does supoort USB and does support 64bit for use with an outside controller.  MICROSOFT is the one that CANNED the used of the LPT driver with 64 bit OS . (;-) Not mach3.

Mach3 cannot support the THC Z moves across the USB side because it is WAY too slow to work properly  SO it is UP TO the Motion control card itself to do the THC Z MOVES as it should be.

To get a sharp corner you need to change from G64 mode to G61 mode until you get around teh corner then switch back.  OR change the settings in CV mode to exclude any angle less then 89 degs
