Yep that is what it does, saves to the tenth.  May I ask what you are using the ratio for ?  Just curious.

Try the XML save first.  It works fine here.   A seperate data file can be a bit complicated.

What you may be seeing with subs and variables is due to mach3 being a buffered system. I t may be switching back and Forth ahead of the actual running code. It cannot do it all in real time. It is the SAME if you are using the Var monitor to view variables values on the fly.

Now I will warn you , Mach3 HAS a problem with tool offsets with subs so IF you have any look out as there is no rymthe or reason  as to when it goes bonkers.

I would not rely on it to do what you want. You should be writing the tool info to a seperate data file on the fly . That way every time it changes you write to the file. In the event of an interuption you can back up to the last known data set.

Or you COULD just do an update of the XML. With the tool data in DROs it is automatically saved in the XML so it would work and would be easy to work with.  Just each time the tool data changes save the xml. It takes about 2 secs to do the XML save.

Test it from the MDI line or this simple program.  Set Z0 above the table high enough to get the indicator in place. Stop mid table and Zero XY.

G90 G49  G49 G80
G91.1 G20
G0 X0 Y0 Z0
G1 X.1 F5 ( take up any slack in the +dir)
M01  (set and Zero the  indicator for X)
(press CYCLE START)
G1 X.500 F5  ( Move .500 "to the right)
G1 Y0.1000  ( take up any slack in Y + dir)
M01   ( set up idicator and zero on Y)
(press CYCLE START)
G1 Y0.500 F5  ( move the Y back .500")
G1 Z-0.1 F5
G1 Z0.000 F5 ( take up slack in Z + dir UP)
M01    ( set up indicator and set to .500)
(press CYCLE START)
G1 Z.500 F5   ( Indicator will go to Zero)
M30
%

IF all 3 axis's move  .500 then you are good to go.

The gcode file cannot effect motor tuning.  After you load the file HOW are you testing the movement ? How are you making Mach3 move to test? are there any scaling leds lit ?(right side of axis DROs)

Are you in inc G91 or Abs G90 when testing ?
