THC with Mach3 will NOT work with any controller BUT an LPT version .  UNLESS that card was designed to run a THC from inside itself. Mach3 will not run it unless it is a LPT driver.

You can transfer the info from the Gcode program  using  #vars, or Tool#, or S word value just to name a few common ways.  Then update your THC from these values via Serial to the THC controller.

IF in the UK side of the big pond you may want to consider using the RAZORDANCE THC controller. All the hard work is already done. You just add in your updating protocol and you are ready to run.

As to Tom's method with an ESS he might not like it if I gave away the secret handshake.

Tom's THC does NOT use the serial for THC it is just used to program his THC for cutting values (arc voltage,etc) His system uses the Mach3 inputs THC UP and THC DOWN and ARC OK just like everyone else has to using the LPT version of Mach3.

NOW with his newest system the THC controls the z as well but that is DONE outside of Mach3 with the ESS.

What you are trying to do with auto presetting of the Machine based on material is not new it has been done before , several different ways (;-) .

Trying to do THC across the serial port is WAY TO SLOW to be effective  By the time you get the data to mach3 it is past history and invalid for corrections.

The THC up /down inputs run at kernal speed and are just barely fast enough.

THere is a THC plugin on this site that is an alterative solution. It may be what you need.

For THC in the UK I would use  RazorDance systems THC.

Just a thought, but it may not be a great idea to continously write to the Gcode buffer in that manner ( ten times per sec).  Maybe Maybe not (;-)

I would write directly to the DRO and quaulify it so that IF it is already set to 2000 ignore the write.

If (DRO) <> 2000 then
    Write to the ( DRO,2000)
End if

Seeing as no one knows exactly how your spindle is setup I do not have anything else to offer.

The only other option is to MOD your cam POST to only output S2000.

Just set up(program) your VFD to always use 60 hz and let Mach3 turn ON /OFF the drive .
