FAQs / Re: Upgrading an old cnc mill

Hi If you need help converting a Triac I have the information, drawings and contacts for stepper drives and breakout boards to run your machine on Mach3 costs about £300 for everything if you use some of triacs old wiring and transformers.

OK will do. Just for reference the machine has run perfect since you helped out. I make Model Steam trains down in a small workshop down the garden. It got so cold over the past couple of weeks I think it froze the machine, had to put some heat into the machine castings via a blow heater. When I came to switching on the computer the Mach3 setting had dissapeared, frozen out?. Still all OK now, back to my chu chues. Jim

Hi, my Mach3 crashed last week, I reprogrammed in all the config and got it all back to normal. However when I hit the stops I can't get the axis to jog off the stop. I'm sure there was a tick box to allow you to jog off the stop but cant remember how I did it. Can anyone JOG my memory

Breakout board and spindle drive card can be found a www.diycnc.co.uk (System 1)
Stepper drives and power supply I got off Ebay, type in stepper drive and look for a bloke called Yuntat from Hong Kong, 4.2 amp will do but I got the 5.6 amp drives. The power supply is the 0-50v 10 amp from him. Although I'm presenty using a power supply made up from bits off the old denford mother board. Any help you need let me know, got your private message, not sure what electronics came with the machine, send me some pictures and I can identify what you have and have not.

Ok think I have sorted it, My LYNX08 spindle board had a capacitor blown on it, I was told it made no difference to the drive unit, that was true, however I had the caspacitor replaced and all seems OK.  AT THE MOMENT!!!!

Hi Hood nice to hear from you 8). Thats the problem, I just have the 2 wire that come from the sensor so I assume there wont be a voltage coming from it just an on/off signal. I'll test it tomorrow but I'm sure its got no power to it, might be wrong, can I apply a 5v supply to it. Remember I'm thick when it comes to electronics. Keep you posted.

Hi Rich, the sensor is directly on the spindle so one rev of the spindle I get one pulse form the sensor. As I mentioned I aint got a clue about electonics, does this pulse need a voltage to it or can I connect it directly to my breakout board and assign a pin number to it in Mach?  Whats a PP?

Hi Its me again, those following my threads know I have converted a Denford Triac cnc mill to run on Mach 3. (done this with lots of help from HOOD) Well getting a bit to big for my boots now, I want to be able to read the actual spindle speed on Mach. Denford have a proximity sensor already fitted to the spndle, its one of those round sensord with adjustable thread to set it. Can I use this unit connected to one of the input pins on my breakout board or do I need some other connections. Remember I'm a plonker when it come to electronics, its all like magic to me.

Hi Sweep, I thought I had sorted out the creep but it started again. Decided to take the LYNX08 unit out of the base unit and mount it in a separate box with its own supply to see if that cures it. I'm a bit concerned as once when it crept one if the red warning lights came on on the Z axis drive. Denford did some strange things to make the spindle lock in the correct position for the tool changer so I;m being carefull, Will keep you posted. putting in M5 S0 didn't solve the problem or the debounce alteration. Jim
