General Mach Discussion / Re: Spindle start up causes mach3 estop
« on: December 17, 2011, 07:36:46 AM »
Hi Hood, went to the plugin menu, mach wont let me config anything. I'm checking your instructions on a computer with the free demo of Mach3 on it and its not connected to my machine, is that why I can find it? My licenced Mach 3 is down the workshop on an old computer and aint connected to the web so have to come up the house to go on the net. Jim

Hi Hood can you take me thru what I have to do. I sometime find the spindle stops and says estop activated. Where do I put in that 1.43 value, only can find where to insert it in the config pull downs.

General Mach Discussion / Connecting a printer
« on: December 16, 2011, 06:14:38 AM »
Hi I'm using a 10 year old Dell computer to run my Mach3 software through a standard printer port (25pin). Before I connect a printer into the system via a usb port can someone advise that this will not effect my connection between the computer and my CNC Mill. E.G Mach will not get confused when I try to print out a copy of any programs. Don't want to upset my set up which is running perfectly.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Cnc machine moves really slow

Sorry re read your post and it appears you have already done the motor tuning. One other possiblity happened to me when I transfered computers on my CNC machine, I accidentally set the master units to inches and then programed the component in mm. Still don't understand what happened but when I re installed Mach 3 and reset the master units to mm, it solved the problem. Jim

Hi have you tuned your motors, they are done in Mach3 config pull down file under motor tuning. as you push the sliders up and down you increase the speed of travel and the acceleration rate.  Note the scales change on the vertical side of the graph increasing or decreasing you axis speed. Jim

Hi Lou. as I said I'm no electronics person but I think it maybe a controller box problem (maybe a bad earth or a loose connection). If the bloke who supplied it is nearby contact him. Remember if you open the box and mess you might infringe the garuantee. As Hood once said to me if it comes from China and comes out of the box working chances are it will continue to work. If it don't work send it back or get in touch with the supplier. If I was a betting man (i'm not) I think you have controller box problems or your computer is not compatable. Jim

Hi Lou just looked at the machine you purchased off ebay, all my stuff about the motors is not relevant. Have a look on the diagnostic page and see if any of the overrides are stopping you moving the axis, failing that there might be something wrong in your blue box controller or as Hood says the rs232 or your computer outputs. I'm in the UK (Birmingham) so anything I can help with let me know I assume your in the USA. Jim

Hi Lou Hoods your man to sort this out however a few thing to look at. My problems started by me taking the old wiring from my denford mill and assuming the colour coming out of the motor was the same all the way trough to the steeper drives (WRONG) so I ended up cross wiring  my X and Y drives, unlike you my stepper drive burnt out. Expensive error. My Z moved but the X and Y just melted the steeper drive, luckily your OK.
Lou they the following
On the diagnostic page look to see of there are any red lights on (overtravel and stops activated).
Check that the computer output is stable (if you look at the Resoursce on the MAch internet file and watch and listen to the videos on setting the system up it will tell you how to do that.
Check for loose connections you have made, my spindle kept stooping in mid program running, it was a loose wire going into the BOB.

From the sound of it you dont appear to have any power to your X and Y. as I said my machine conversion was from and old 1988 Denford Triac which had 4 wire steppers, if they are not matched in pairs that could be your problem with the Z axis as my axis grumbled the first time I wired it up. A simple electronic tested will tell you the pairs of wires.. Lou dont know how much you have had to do to connect it all up but it appears you havent got power to your X and Y axis.
Keep in contact with the forum and you will sort it out, I did and I'm as thick as two short planks when it comes to electronic. Got so many notes on how I set it up if it goes wrong I should be able to fix it, maybe with help from Hood. As I said before if not someone on the forum will help.
