Mach4 General Discussion / mach 3 to 4
« on: April 03, 2017, 12:55:04 PM »
Hello,

got two questions on mach 3 to 4 changeover.

1) do I need to download the parallel port plug in to go from mach 3 to mach 4 hobby?
I'm running a Xylotex motion controller that has a parallel port input.

2) the profiles created in mach 3 will not work in mach 4?

Thank you!

General Mach Discussion / ToolChange offsets
« on: May 06, 2014, 04:59:02 PM »
If I need X Y Z offsets for my tool changes what should I do? Or what is the best option?
I think the tool table only allows for Z offset?

Thanks for any input.

General Mach Discussion / Threading
« on: July 08, 2012, 09:56:36 PM »
Im trying to understand how its possible to cut threads without stopping the spindle.

The x feed rate and spindle rpm must be related and then you just pull out of the cut
go back to start, feed in a little bit more and your good to go?
How do you know your starting the next run at the same place the thread started.

Right now, Im doing a controlled number of  revolutions stop the spindle  reverse and retract out the same way.
Feed in some more and redo.

Thanks

General Mach Discussion / Work offsets saved in an external file?
« on: July 07, 2012, 03:52:30 PM »
Hi

Is the work offset table editable in notepad?
Is it a file somewhere?
It seems to be only accessable by running mach.

Thanks allot for the input.

There is a file under mach3/macros/yourprofile/fixtures.dat
i dont know hot to edit a .dat file...

Anyway i dont know how to handle a tool change where the tool position
changes in not only Z by  X and Y as well.

The tool offset table seems to only handle Z value offsets.
Unless you run Mach3 lathe, but i dont feel comfortable with Mach3 lathe.

Much appreciate any input.

Hi

If the max Velocity is the same in motor tuning and spindle pulley config,
Then the S value would be the actual spindle RPM?

Does anyone see an issue with running an A axis table as a spindle then after the spindle is shut off with M5,  running it as a linear/rotational axis?

I have the A axis and Spindle output going to the same pins.
I have the A axis and Spindle Motor tuning values exactly same.
The spindle is setup for step/dir output

It seems to work

I noticed however that the spindle speed was not correct with the S command.
I am wondering if the pulley ratio has anything to do with it, thus my question.

thanks fo any input.

General Mach Discussion / MILLING TEXT ONTO A CYLINDER
« on: January 13, 2012, 09:10:55 AM »
Hello Everyone

If i have a vertical 4 axis machine,  (3 linear and one rotational axis mounted to the table),
what cam software would allow me to incribe or mill out text onto the cylinder?
The cylinder is held in the 4th axis.

So far i have been typing in my own g code for some simple stuff, but i dont see how i can possibly
do this without some type of cam help.

Thanks for input
Peace

General Mach Discussion / Re: 4th Axis, "A", speed control

Yes, I am single point threading.
I have a stepper for the A axis.

thanks for your suggestion to configure as a spindle.
I thought about configuring it as a spindle.
Can i use the same output ports as for the 4th axis?
I was trying it last night without success.

General Mach Discussion / 4th Axis, "A", speed control
« on: March 15, 2011, 05:21:37 PM »
Hello

I am wondering if i can set the speed of the A axis to a constant rate and not stop.
I want to do other things with x,y,z axis while A is still turning.
I am trying to cut a thread using the A axis to spin my part.
Is there some G code lingo i need?

The rotational setting on mach3 for the A axis didnt seem to work, so i kept
using a linear setting.

I am using a trial version of Mach3

thanks for help.
