CVI MachStdMill (MSM) / Announcement: MachStdMill End Of Life

June 2021 -

Calypso Ventures, Inc. has announced that their MachStdMill (MSM) software has been set to End-Of-Life status.

This could impact current licensees ability to continue to use MSM in the future (for example after a PC hardware failure).

Finished Screens / Announcement: MSM 2.0 released, free personal edition

Hi,
MSM 2.0 has been released and the MSM Personal Edition is now free.
Note that the personal edition also includes the new 2.0 Lathe screens - so mach lathe users now have available a quality lathe screen set.

Calypso Ventures, Inc. is pleased to announce the 2.0 release of the MachStdMill (MSM)  package for Mach3. The 2.0 release adds significant new features, expands the prior  functionality set and makes the MSM Personal Edition free for personal non-commercial use.  

Calypso Ventures Inc. continues to offer two editions of MachStdMill; the MachStdMill Personal Edition and the MachStdMill Professional Edition.  

The MSM Personal Edition supports all of Mach3’s stock functionality and includes the following major new features with version 2.0:
•   Lathe operation support (including a complete new Lathe GUI)
•   Is now available for $0 (no license fee) for personal non-commercial use.

The MSM Professional Edition includes all the features of the Personal Edition, and provides advanced functionality implemented in MachStdMill. For version 2.0 major enhancements include:
•   The new Mill-Turn package. This allows the running of lathe G-Code on a vertical mill. The Mill-Turn module uses a superset of the 2 axis lathe GUI in the Personal Edition.  MSM takes care of handling “Y offsets” during tool changes so that Lathe G-Code can run unmodified. For many turning operations, this module allows a MSM user to avoid the need for a CNC lathe.
•   MSM’s leading probing package has been extended to work in lathe mode and provides probe operations for Mill-Turn tool and fixture set up.

Other popular features of MSM Professional include:
•   Automated TLO measurements for tool changes
•   The most extensive probe tool support available for Mach3, with built in operations for 3 and 4 axis setups.
•   Advanced tool handling support including Master Tool Mode.
•   Support for saving & recalling WCO and Tool Tables to/from disk.

The MSM user documentation has been enhanced with the 2.0 release; In addition to the extensive MSM Mill user manual (approximately 300 pages), there is also a new Lathe manual which covers Turn and Mill-Turn operation with MSM. In addition, there are multiple videos on the CVI web site which demonstrate many of the key MSM Mill and Lathe features.

Hi,
Have you ever wanted some CNC lathe parts, but don’t have a CNC lathe? Yet you do have a CNC mill?

Mach mill owners outnumber lathe owners, making this a common situation.  Tilt your head sideways and squint a tad while looking at your vertical mill and you’ll see a lathe (hanging by the spindle from the ceiling).  ;-)   

While the concept is not unique, the details of dealing with the extra axes stop most folks from using their mill as a lathe. The MSM Turn support facilities were designed with Mill-Turn operations as the core goal. We figured that if we did the design well, the usual 2 axis lathe support would be a sub set of the Mill-Turn design….

I want to let folks know that after a successful Alpha test program, the new MSM Turn and Mill-Turn features sets are now available for general beta use.

Turn:
The new turn screens utilize the logical work flow to that has proven popular with the MSM Mill software. The Turn screens are now included in the MSM Personal Edition software and they support a full set of Mach Lathe abilities.

Mill-Turn:
The MSM Mill-Turn support allows you to run Lathe g-code on your mill.
The basic design approach was to
1)   make it easy to set up Lathe tooling (including offsets in X,Z and Y) on a mill, and
2)   handle the Mill unique aspects of turning operations during the tool change sequence.
This approach enables one to run unmodified lathe g-code on the mill: No lathe g-code modifications are necessary to do turning on the mill.   The Mill-Turn screens provide the UI for this feature set.

The MSM probing features have also been extended to operate within Mach’s lathe mode, and new probing Ops can be utilized to quickly setup lathe tooling. MSM Mill-Turn features are included in the MSM Professional Edition software.

MSM Turn and Mill-Turn include screens for both “10x7 and “12x10” resolution (or larger) monitors.

If you are not currently an MSM user, you can try out both Turn and Mill-Turn without cost – as both feature sets are fully functional on MSM trial installations.

General Mach Discussion / turn: gcode or mach bug?

Hi,
I'm puzzled....
I can't seem to get mach to plot what I think I have in my gcode. It could be a my code, it could be mach - I'm unsure.
My code plots as expected in other plotting tools.

I've attached notes with the code and pics of the plots I get in NCPlot and mach.
I'm looking for anyone that can tell me where I went wrong in the lathe gcode, or verify that what mach is plotting is incorrect.

General Mach Discussion / Lathe - set max RPM for CSS?

Hi,
I'm playing with mach lathe -

1) is there a newer gcode language doc for lathe than what is in the old mach 1.84 manual?

2) G96 is not in the 1.84 manual - but I see that the mdi line accepts G96 S~
What is the syntax spec for mach's G96?

3) How do / can you set a max RPM for G96 mode?
