General Mach Discussion / Trouble on the Z axis again
« on: January 23, 2010, 11:24:32 AM »
I do not know what is happening, I cut one job fine ran two dry runs began to cut a pattern and the Z asix started cutting to deep.  .062 was after three passes .625 adn the DRO said -.062   I an hoping with the G540 there is something I have missed.

With the new g540 and new motors steppers they seem warm to the touvh is this normal? I never noticed this before with the old system is why I ask.

General Mach Discussion / Stragen events question
« on: January 17, 2010, 09:32:03 AM »
I am running G-Code developed by Vcarve things are ruining normal.  Someplace in the middle at the end most anywhere the Z axis just goes off in no mans land.  I can raise an inch or more ) is now 1" above the work piece and I am cutting in the air.  I stop the program and reset the Z to real 0 then back up and repeat the cut.  This is a real pain and I am not able to find what is happening.  Something is causing this but I have no idea what to look for.  X and Y axis are all fine only the Z is messed up for some reason.

Any ideas what I can look for to eliminate this problem  It's hard to reset the Z in the middle of a run.  To say nothing of finding your place in the code to start from here.

General Mach Discussion / Motor Tuning
« on: January 08, 2010, 05:17:20 AM »
I have watched the video tutorial here on motor tuning and am still comfused.  I understand how to control changes but what is right?  What do you look for in making these changes.  I ran this machine in Mach2 but the setting are completely different in Mach3 so the numbers do not translate at least I am not able to translate them.

My system is using 270 oz stepper motors 200 turns with gecko g540 driver and the lead screw is 4 turns per inch so calculating the turns per is easy 8000.  Now the fun begins.  Moving the sliders to adjust speed etc.  What are you really looking for to optimize the system for best speed and movement.

I should probably mention I use the for routing wood the machine is 24 x 48 my normal feed rate in hard wood is around 50 ipm and a max cut depth of around 1/8 inch.  I know the feed rate is controlled in my G-Code file.  The motor tuning has some affect on this does it not?

General Mach Discussion / Correct orentation for X and Y
« on: January 07, 2010, 08:52:58 AM »
I am confused once more.  I have been under the impression that X and Y are in relation to your standing at the Front left corner of the machine and left to right is X and front to rear is Y.  Since my table is not square it's 24 x 48 it is a bit important but I am seeing in areas conflicting information not here but other places.  Am I correct that 0-0 is left front corner of the machine and is the X axis right to left?

General Mach Discussion / I have a K2 CNC Need Help Setting up
« on: January 07, 2010, 03:58:42 AM »
I have the tool Hit Indicator and need to understand how to connect this to Mach3.  I know it's nothing less or more than a micro switch in a controlled height block with a spring loaded indicator pad.  Can this be set up as a Probe in Mach3?  Right now it's wired into my controller on Pin 13 so I think it could work like a limit but not to convenient.  any information would be appreciated.

General Mach Discussion / Optimizing the code.
« on: January 06, 2010, 11:02:28 AM »
Is there a way to optimize the G code?  I have pockets Begin cut and it seems that I make one cut in this area move to another make one cut and so on gradually making the round to get back to the first area to make the second cut.  You would think that once in an area you would cut all you can prior to moving out to another.  That would save a lot of Z up and down and moving time.  I know this is not a function of Mach3 it only does what the code tell is to do.  One of the files I am using is made in Vcarve Pro and it seems the code makes the Machine Work overtime to get the job done.  There must be some way to optimize the code I just do not know what that way is.
