General Mach Discussion / Cutting errors
« on: March 08, 2010, 10:09:10 AM »
I am not sure what to look for.  I am pocket cutting and the rectangle is coming out approximately 1/64 of an inc undersize.  This happens even when I cut a round pocket or hole.  I have not noticed a problem until I went to fit a clock insert into a hole that was too small.  All the other carving seems to be correct but I am not sure I would notice a small error is it were consistant.  But when you put 1" peg into a 1" hole that is quite noticeable.  actually I made the opening 1/32 larger than the insert for a bit of clearance and it was still tight ....  Any ideas what I should check?

General Mach Discussion / auto zero tool
« on: February 07, 2010, 11:33:30 AM »
I have been working for a few days not trying to get the K2CNC Z tool height control working.  They sent a macro that will allow me to zero the tool to the table manually then use the tool to set the offset.  I guess that is good but not for me since I always work from the top of my stock as probably most router users do.  I have looked all over here for a macro that would be simple I know the height of the tool it's 1.790 I do not understand the macros so I am not able to sort what macro here will work for me .  All it needs to Do is hit the plate and move up then it would be known that the height is what ever the move up was as well as 1.790 and feed that to the dro.

Anyone know what macro here might do what I am looking for?  It would save me a lot of time during tool changes to find zero from my stock on the fly.

General Mach Discussion / Fine Saw dust
« on: January 29, 2010, 08:57:05 AM »
My CNC controller has fans inside to keep things cool.  My router is making a lot of fine dust that is accumulating in the controller,.  I have been blowing this stuff best I can with compressed air to remove as much as possible.  Is there a good way to protect the controller from all that dust?  If you cut wood you make dust must be some way.

General Mach Discussion / Leveling the gantry and table
« on: January 26, 2010, 04:42:14 AM »
It seems I am beginning to run more steady now and am looking more critically at the actual cuts being made and I find my table is not parallel to the gantry by 3/64 of an inch.  This is from side to side on the short axis.  #hat I am doing is setting Zero at onecorner of the table raising the Z  move to corner 2 set zero and checking it's the same.

Having determined this small error what is the best material to use to shim the table flat.  I have a solid base with an MDG top with screws holding the mdf down in four places.  This is 1" MDF with T bar slots cut in it and I have T bar in the slots.

I am not sure if tape or some other material is best to use.  I  am sure others have had this situation, I can see why you really want to protect that table top now it takes a bit of time to level things out for accuracy.

General Mach Discussion / Remember Settings
« on: January 25, 2010, 05:51:15 AM »
Is there a way to have Mach3 not reset to 9 9 9 each time you load a G-Code file?  The X Y is not so much a problem but with the same tool it would be nice once Zero is established with a tool unless you change the tool it would be nice to have Mach remember the last setting for Z.

There might be a reason for the reset but with what I have been doing it wold help a lot saving time in resetting Z each time you load a new job using the same tool.
