Thank you, Brett,
But I need to make note that Jeff Woodcock (member JJWMACHINECO) is the inventor and master of laser diode image engraving technology.  Without his spearheading development and his constant experimenting, we would all still be laser engraving images with TTL dithered images, ala CO2 lasers.

Thanks Jeff, and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,

Can you use Laser diode to cut 1/4" wood? Am looking switching to Laser instead of a router

Sorry, a laser diode does not have enough power to cut wood that thick.  A CO2 laser is required for that.

Merry Christmas,

Looks maybe more like a mechanical issue to me.  If it was losing position (lost steps) wouldn't the letters be messed up?

Check for a loose coupling.

Sam,
The Gecko G203Vs have an axis auto current reduction feature.  It activates after about 1 second of axis inactivity, if I read the manual correctly.  It is supposed to reduce current on standby to 70%, but some versions reduce current to 0%.

Could your problem be related to this feature?  From your description, it sounds suspicious to me, especially since you say it happens with any axis.

A stepper that needs 3.1 amps is not going to work well with only 2/3s the amps.  Likely a little extra friction in your x axis is more than your current-limited stepper can handle.   Try reducing your velocity and acceleration settings 25%.
