General Mach Discussion / Re: Machine hesitates then loses position
« on: January 20, 2013, 07:20:45 PM »
Chris,

A video may give someone a clue.  It is a little confusing since you say it loses position, but also that it zeros back to the fixture.  Strange.  As a wild guess, are you running your gcode file from a drive other than your hard drive?

Thanks Friends,

Dan, I used identical mirrors for both engravings.  They are sold for decorative candle bases.

As quickly becomes obvious if you try, mirrors are very difficult to photograph without distracting reflections, hence the first photo's appearance.  I had to take it at an angle and and convert it to gray scale to minimize reflections.

This is a mirror lasered with a negative image like a lithophane.

Paul,
I use 1/8" v-bits all the time and have not experienced what you describe.  Are you using too high of a feed rate?  I use 5 ipm.

I'm finally getting my laser diode machine tuned in.  Burned this today.  It's a little too dark, but caused by wood type.  I need to replenish my good wood (Baltic Birch) supply.

Did you ever try the caps on the limit switch inputs to your BOB?
