General Mach Discussion / After all these years...(2009)
« on: July 04, 2014, 10:32:39 AM »
Well, the inevitable has happened....hard drives do not last forever! Luckily this happened on a boot-up - "boot disc failure."

I was using an old version R2.042.30 and was doing fine so now must reconfigure a new hard drive and reload Mach3. (thinking about one of the new SSD's but they're all so large - 180 GB is the smallest I have located.) I found a back-up of the .XML file and hope that is all I need to get back running again. But - it occurs to me that 'why not upgrade?' since many improvements have been made with Mach3, go with the current version. This is a machine dedicated computer....

A question or two may help: Will my old license work with the new software and can I upgrade with the old XML file? I had also licensed an add-on...which I used too.

Its been a while since checking in and this machine has been making parts right along. I still build miniature IC engines and have also been doing some gunsmithing on the machine. Having the machine computer fail in such a catastrophic manner has made me very sad - very sad indeed! But maybe with some help it will recover without too much anguish.

Thanks kindly!

General Mach Discussion / Re: A Really Exceptional Vendor....
« on: January 26, 2010, 07:46:24 AM »
Let's go one farther...An unsubstantiated claim of a "Really Exceptionally BAD" vendor should be taken with a grain of salt. The reason for these posts and 'opinions' would seem to be for the benefit of the members of the forum and as a means of warning of a bad vendor. If a member was just about to make a purchase from that vendor and read the claim - naturally he would like a bit of elaboration of the claim - problem with billing; problem with quality of merchandise; problem with shipping....?

There are ways of making a memberr know that he is unwelcomed. Having a post totally ignored is a pretty good one. I've tried but no cigar, I'll be going now as you wish.

Well, let's hear the 'bad' story too....elaborate!

"Run from here" will do it and will also warn you of the axis moves that will happen to do it. Works fine - done it many times. Scroll through the program to your starting point and click on "run from here". Mach will run through the program up to your line and wait for the 'cycle start' - then you get the warning. The spindle will need to be manually started - F5.

Just who are you 'laughing out loud' at there Ed? My band wagon? (I still feel bad about the way Ray L's thread got stomped on...(but he's probably Tubal Cain incognito))

Thank you - understand....Good info. You might need to ask more questions here!

dart70ca, I have a question...Gerry will help with this too....

In Mach3 on the MDI screen...can't Keith rotate his axis by doing a 'local system rotated" then enter + or - 90 degrees; since Z follows and will remain the same and do what he needs to do?

Very good! Good photos.

Not sure why but I've always liked gears - like they are a science. Very satisfying to make a set that run sweetly together.

That's it....except that he is cutting a hob. The original design was to make standard cutters using the method similar to what RICH described for the tool. Making the hob makes more sense due to the fact that you don't need to be concerned about the involute shape - it's a basic 14.5 degree acme thread pitched to the diametral pitch lead.

That's a good video - may inspire a modification to the one I built to make hobs. He used a master thread rather than the lathe lead screw.....wonder why?

Off topic again.....sorry Steve....
