HiCON Motion Controller / Re: Backlash copensation issues
« on: May 22, 2017, 10:04:49 PM »
Sparky3i,
I am now back to cutting the medallion.
This cut in to finish what stopped 2 weeks ago.
its a 7+ hour cut and it still cutting past the 4 hour mark.
I am using v63 on this cut with V3383.
We only have Steppers with no feedback so you differ with your servos.
I have tried to use steps of .0025mm (2 Pulses exact) = .0001" and it seems to be OK, but reverted back to .01mm (8 Pulses exact) good enough for our hobby mill.
You might want to manually calculate the pulses, do you get an even number Steps Per X your Step Distance.
Thanks to Rufi hard work all is looking good, I will be testing V3390 as he has posted the Plugins.
Regards,
Mauri.

Sparky3,
The latest Plugin works for me with V3383 no more issues.
Air test went well with no stoppages.

Wait for Rufi's new V3390 Plugin before testing V3390.
Did you get my File?

Thanks Rufi for your hard work.
Regards,
Mauri.

Sparky3,
Rufi, found my problem must have had the wrong profile Too many tests.
I can now do a proper test with V3383
I do not have any issue with Backlash I use it down to .01mm.

The link for V3383 has been taken out they only have V3390 on the Mach4 Website at present.
Send me a personal message with your email address and I can send it to you.
Best Regards,
Mauri.

Mach4 General Discussion / Re: Mach 4 stops while running program

Soxfan963,
Yes this is your problem and the cause of a lot of most of your problems including lack of HP, RF Noise and Spindle capability with its limited bearings.
Your speed and feed are way too high for HSS End Mill especially on Hard Maple or Hard Birch.
Max on Cutting with HSS 1/4" end mill cutter and 1/4" depth of cut on Hard Maple or Hard Birch Slot Cut.
Speed 11900 Feed 250mm/min = .82fpm
You are lucky you did not break your cutter.
However if you are only taking only 1/16 side cut at 1/4" deep then.
Speed 13200 Feed 5000mm/min = 16fpm Climb Milling.
So as you can see depending on the cut you will need to vary your speeds and feeds especially using the Spindle you are using and the HSS.
Also if you push you spindle too hard you will wear it out sooner.

Mauri.

Soxfan963,
You do not say if you are using HSS or Carbide cutters.
It also depends how rigid you machine is and good your spindle is.
Hard Maple and Birch are similar.
New sharp I/4" End Mill Cutter Carbide 1/4" deep.
Max Speed = 17121 and Feed = 4600mm/s = 15 fpm
This will use about .85KW on the Motor or 1.16HP
This can vary on the type of cutter and spiral angle.
So your Feed should be OK.
Is you spindle water cooled?
Does it have 4 bearings?
Does it have at least 2.2KW or 3HP?
You can get this info from using GWizard Machinist's calculator.

Mauri.

Soxfan963,
Twisted cables.
Example.RJ45 cables have every 2 twisted, so out of 8 wires there are 4 twisted pair.
Cables in the Controller that connect to the motors should be twisted pair.
Cable going to the motors should be twisted pair.
Homing cables should also be twisted pair.
The power cable if you are using a VFD HS spindle the power cable should have a shield with one end earthed.
A shielded cables may have a foil surrounding the twisted cables or it could have a wire mesh.
This is a link to some shielded and twisted cables.

Hope this helps.

Soxfan963,
You can place ferrite suppressors on all cables that way you get the best results they are very cheap from Ebay.
The Ethernet cable should be OK they have twists to prevent noise, but a shielded version is the best.
All cables should be shielded (motor, home and spindle).
All cables should be twisted (i.e.) cables to Motors, home and spindle, cable inside the controller.

Soxfan963,
When a machine is under stress a number of electrically driven parts will produce RF and EMF noise.
In your case it could be the spindle.
You need to put in place an RF and EMF suppressor in your electrical connections.
Also Noise can be fixed by adding suppressors to wiring like RF ferrite noise suppressors and clip then around all the cables. (ebay has many sizes available fairly cheap).
Make sure all your cabling are all shielded and one end of the shield is earthed to the mill/router table.
We have had situations in the past that even a remote garage door opening caused to machine to stop.

Mauri.

Haik,
All controllers out there are continually making changes to suit the newest version of Mach4.
HiCON has been the one that has worked out of the box.
In the past I used Smooth Stepper, but have always had some issues.
PMDX may be worth an enquiry.
Regards,
Mauri.
