Mach4 General Discussion / Re: Can I used Mach4 on multiple computers?
« on: November 19, 2020, 09:45:40 AM »
The license for Mach4Hobby states that you may put it on up to 5 computers for non-commercial use. The license server will track how many licenses you have created. Internet connections are not needed for the software to run, only for installation.

It relies on an honor system for owners outfitting commercial production machines to purchase a license for each machine.

Computers used for testing and CAM verification are considered non-commercial use.

Licenses are self managed using the MachSupport.com web site and you can add and delete licenses as needed.

Mach4 General Discussion / Re: Mach 4 losing Home position

One thing that can cause similar strange behavior is a limit switch that false triggers from vibration. Some G-code files might be setting up a resonance whereas others do not.

Version 4300 is still the "official" download version. What is the game plan going forward?

It is likely possible to accomplish this in LUA, and I think there may already be some work towards this goal that has been posted here. The limiting factor would be travel speed which must be slow for the final process as the response time of LUA working as a PMC (PLC) process is slower than response inside of a motion controller.

On your Axis Mapping tab page you have a green check mark under Enable column for Axis A. Turn this off because you do not have an A axis.

The PMDX SmartBOB family does not currently support "Gantry Squaring" which uses separate inputs for each motor when running two motors on the same axis. I think the correct thing to do in this situation is to pick one input and use it for both motors on your Y axis. I do not currently have a setup that I can use to test this, sorry. Please let us know what you find out.

The homing signals are mapper to motor number, not axis.

You will find them under Input Signals as "Motor 0 Home" etc.

The list of input signals is long, so you will need to scroll down to find them.

Mach4 General Discussion / Re: ArtSoft Website Down Again??

The Machsupport.com web site, including license maintenance, seems to be running fine for me. The Internet is a complex beast and many things other than the web host could be causing your problems.

I suspect that you can use Windows Task Manager to discover what Mach related task is not shutting down. Then you could use Task Manager to force shutdown of that task before trying to restart Mach4.

Mach4 has many threads running and when you shut it down, it takes a while for them all to be properly ended. With more recent versions of Mach4 there are more things to shut down and it takes longer. If any of them have not yet ended, Mach4 will fail to start because of conflicts between the old and the new processes. If the PMDX-424 is not connected the full set of processes is not running and shutdown is faster.

Try waiting maybe 15 seconds longer before you try to relaunch Mach4.

Also make sure that hyperthreading is enabled in your BIOS configuration if it is configurable.
