LazyCam (Beta) / Re: Drawing into LC and then to Mach
« on: January 13, 2010, 04:14:53 PM »
I know what you mean.
I can work with my files on cpu in garage, have Mach3, CorelDraw10, and TraceArt on it and occasionally freezes up but the one upstairs in house has so much software on it I need to delete something. Keeps freezing and crashing.
Stopped using Inkscape found Acme TraceArt works very good and saves as DXF for most of what I need.
I am using corelDraw more and am able to export as DXF for Lcam
The more I use coreldraw the more I find I can do with it

Hi Earl here
Have posted a few times now and
You helped me out getting into Inkscape.

Now problem...............
I take an image and place into my work area on Inkscape, then I also add an area of text.
e.g. Emma's Room
Now I want to turn it all into a workable DXF file.
I seem to be hit and miss on being able to do this.
I try to select all then  path/trace and not seem to be picking up
Other steps involved?? find edges before tracing.?
Could you explain one more time.
I have also been playing with CamBam but thinking that get used to
Inkscape, then Lcam then Mach should be lots to deal with
Thanks for help
Earl
ps Been doing some awsome image only engraving of Wile Coyote and the Lightning Mcqueen car and Ariel

Sorry took so long to post again, but have been getting the machine setup.
Am now engraving. have had some success with all the help here.
Too much software out there to get confused over.
Like the CamBam and Inkscape.  I have corel and photoshop too.
So on to playing with images and tracing and all.
Going to make some plaques with grandkids names and some graphics.
Yay,
Earl

General Mach Discussion / Re: Table layout Y direction in Mach
« on: November 25, 2009, 10:13:32 AM »
Ok I think I got it.  My table is 24" x 12", so my home position for X will be 0" and Y at 12"
Then when I start the run it will then go to position in code for start, which could be the first position cut and not actually X0 and Y0.
I have the motors working now and movement on the machine.  My Z axis is only .390" total travel which is very small as this was an old engraving machine. So I have to find a place to mount limit switches as over travel is too easy.

I am working on how to build a longer travel assembly. but still use the existing spindle and motor setup.
Think It might be easier to go to a small laminate trimmer and build a whole new mount.
Thanks for you help
Earl

General Mach Discussion / Table layout Y direction in Mach
« on: November 21, 2009, 11:03:24 AM »
I am wondering if I can layout my Y axis from top left corner instead of bottom left as my tool starts home position in top left.
Then I would also have to layout in L-Cam too or CamBam or ??

X is ok as tool moves from left to right.
It is my table that moves. When homed the table is towards me and tool is at the back left corner.

I would like to be able to just place my work on the table to the left and away from me and go.
My thinking is the table has to move all the way back before the tool is in a start position.
If it could start near the table start position would save movement time??
I have permanent edges on the left and away sides of the table and slots in table to hold work in that position
((old dahlgren engraver)) 12" x 24"
If leave tool position at towards me then I am reaching under to place material on table which is away .

Any thoughts would be appreciated.
I think I confused myself even more.........Still wiring up the motors and board....

LazyCam (Beta) / Re: removing chains and entities
« on: October 27, 2009, 08:48:49 AM »
Hmmm thought that editing the image before saving as a DXF would be the case.

So properly would be to take more time to clean the image in photoshop first.
Open it in Inkscape to change to DXF then to Lcam for the code and then to Mach
Thanks

LazyCam (Beta) / removing chains and entities
« on: October 23, 2009, 10:38:00 AM »
Ok here I go again.
Am bringing in my image oops DXF into Lcam.
Looks good have double lines etc.
Have removed a lot of the lines and speckles with rem objects.
very time consuming.
I also want to remove some of the entities in a chain
example #664 to #702 in chain 24
To do one entity at a time will take quite awhile.

Is there a way to select multiple objects first or multiple entities then remove?

Don't know what I did but got it to load in Mach.
Was playing with it in Lcam and then posted code a couple times and then went to Mach and the whole thing was there
Wish I could remember what I did.
Going to do a new drawing and clean the speckles out first and try again but write down what I do.
After a couple tries it should stick in my head
Ya'd think I was blond.haha
Oh well play and play again
