LazyTurn / Slow spindle on my lathe
« on: August 19, 2010, 08:36:37 AM »
Hi!

I´ve asked around about this and noone seems to have a solution for me.
I´m running smoothstepper on my lathe and the spindle motor is a dc servo motor that´s rated to about 3000 RPM.
For some reason it just won´t go any faster than about 940 RPM.
It feels like i´ve tried everything.
In Motor Tuning i have velocity at max but it still won´t go faster.
I´ll soon throw my lathe in the trash if I don´t solve this.

SmoothStepper USB / Smoothstepper Lathe RPM problem
« on: February 08, 2010, 07:00:26 AM »
I can´t seem to get my lathe spindle to go faster than 935 rpm (according to the index pulse).
The motor is supposed to do 3600 rpm but no matter what i do, it´s not going faster.
I use a servo motor with encoder connected to the smooth stepper through a servo motor drive.(step & dir)  http://www.cnc2all.com/servo-engine-driver-eng.html
It doesn´t seem to be anything wrong with Mach setup so does anyone know if there is a setting in the smooth stepper that solves this...

Thanks!

SmoothStepper USB / Index Pulse Help!
« on: January 20, 2010, 02:47:45 PM »
I want to use an index pulse with my lathe.
I don´t have alot of experience about this and would appreciate some help.

This is the "component" i´m using... http://www.everlight.com/upload/product_pdf/ITR8102.pdf
I´ve connected it to the breakout board MB-02 on the smoothstepper and
get a correct reading in between ALOT of "jitter".

How do i get rid of this jitter?
Do i need pull-up or pull-down resistors?
Someone told me that the index pulsel MUST be active low, is this true?

As it is now i believe the signal is active high since i use an index disc with a slot once/turn!

General Mach Discussion / Servo spindle on Lathe
« on: January 09, 2010, 10:41:29 AM »
I really need help configuring my lathe spindle.
I´ve installed a servo motor on my small lathe and I can get the motor to go to different positions in the program that came with
the servo motor drive but in mach, nothing happens!?
The Servo motor drive has a Step, Dir and Signal Ground that i´ve connected to the breakout board for the smooth stepper, the same way as the stepping motors but what is missing?
How do i set the motor up in Mach?

I´ve been trying for hours now and cannot get it to work.
I´m using the smooth stepper with breakout board MB-02.
The spindle motor is a small 150W servo motor with following encoder. (HEDS-5540)http://www.chipcatalog.com/Datasheet/FA1DD47A1C902DD3EC1732ECFCA376DF.htm
(The lathe is a small Emco unimat and the original spindle is about 50W)
Here is the servo drive i use http://www.cnc2all.com/servo-engine-driver.html
This is my first build and i´m completely lost.  :(
I´m trying to set up the motor in the program provided with the servo drive (UHU controller).

If I connect the encoder channels as they´re supposed to i can get the motor to turn to a specific position but in Mach 3 nothing happens.
If I swap the channels a&b the spindle does 1 turn then there is an error lamp.
Someone´s got a clue where i should start??
I really need help.

Kind Regards

Ricard

General Mach Discussion / Isel Gantry Machine and Mach 3
« on: August 26, 2009, 11:07:56 AM »
Hi!
I´m pretty confused about Mach 3 although i´ve heard great things about it.
I have a 3 axis gantry machine with a controller called "P4". (see attached link)
http://www.solectro.se/Archive/Documents/Produktblad/P4_komp_1.pdf
I don´t like the program that came with it (galaad) and i have plans to start using Mach 3 instead.
Is it possible to use Mach 3 with my controller without changing the hardware, i mean if galaad can control
my machine now there should be a way to make it work with Mach 3!?
