Share Your GCode / Square & Compass

Has anyone got a design for a nice Masonic 'Square & Compass' I'm thinking of aluminiuum or even brass.
I tried to call Dan Brown but he wasn't in   ;D

Thanks in anticipation....

Thanks for that, Yeah I did see you reccomendation to reduce the speed for the first cut but wasnt sure how to do that.

However I did find a useful command in CAMBAM which was 'level first' I selected this for another test job and that seemed to be a bit better.

I've a lot to learn, I have built a very nice router bed 1.2mtrs x 600mm using twin ball screws on the x axis. I opted for a 1.5kw spindle motor and it seems to be fine. I will admit I'm strugling on cut speeds, rotaional spindle speeds, tool diameter and a whole host of other things. Guess I gotta learn to walk before I run!

Thanks

George

Hi Tweakie, I'm an absolute beginner at all this. I thought for my fist wood cut I'd try your nice gemma in an MDF just to see hows things worked out. I loaded my nice new 3mm ball nose cutter, set my spindle speed to 3000 as suggested, then loaded gemma into mach 3. zero'd everything. touched on the workpiece with the cutter and zero'd the Z axis. Then I run the code.
Bang. the tool dived to 6mm below the surface of the MDF and the poor old thing couldnt keep up with the feed rate (300) and snapped within 3 seconds of travel.
So, what did I do wrong ?

Hi,
My name is George, I'm a Scot but living in the Manchester area. That doesn't stop me wearing a kilt however  ;D
My hobies include vintage motorcycle riding, I own a 1953 BSA 650CC Golden Flash and have recently completed a John O Groats to Lands End run. Fantastic ride and raised lots of money for my local childrens hospital into the bargain.

I'm also into Live Steam and have an almost complet 3.5" Jubilee 2-6-4 engine. All motion gear fully installed and working.
I play golf badly but enjoy every minute of it.

I have just completed my flatbed CNC router which is approx 1.2 mtrs by 600mm. Ballscrews used throughout with 2 screws driving the main axis. I've used a 1.5kw 400vac spindle motor and drive unit imported from China and it sounds good.

Today I cut my first job using Mach3 which only an hour or so ago I recieved my liscence file.  ;D
The job came out great but gave me my first lesson on 'clamping. I can see that that is gonna be realy important.

I want to cut 2mm brass for the water tanks on my engine so that is going to be my first major project. Fingers crossed I got two good packages Mach3 and Cambam.
Lets hope I can do them both justice.

Anyone in the Oldham/Manchester area care to drop me a line I would be glad to sit with them for the next hundred years and pick their brains.

Regards

George

Most strange Rich,

When I download the manual, Adobe flags up an error saying the doc is corrupt.

I installed the latest Adobe 9.1 and still the same result.

Your extract from the manual opened nicely.

?????

Hi Rich,

I'm trying to open the Lazycam manual but it tells me there is a file error. Manual is empty.

Can u help.

I'm considering buying the Mach3 Liscence with Cambam?

Is Lazycam now fully functional. What does it Cost for Lazycam ?, I see no reference to it's price

Thanks

George
