Can the MAch3 tutorial videos be downloaded and transferred as MP3 or 4's to an Ipad for viewing ?
Is this permitted.

Many thanks

General Mach Discussion / Starturn 5 conversion
« on: September 18, 2010, 05:24:11 AM »
Hi to all.

Firstly, please forgive me if multiple posts from me have apeared on the same topic. I'm still getting the hang of things.

I would like some help on converting my Starturn5. It uses the LCB3 controller and is in working condition.

Searching around I have found various that people have been succsesful with this in particular the tool changer.

I have had some info from the guys at Denfor, they have been great and I have had some good schematics and other advice.

Steppers
I have identiified my steppers and know how to drive them from Mach3. I use the CNC4PC breakout board on my flatbed 3 axis router I built. But I dont want to drive the Starturn steppers until I know how to hookup the 'home & limit' switches. That's the first move. I dont want to be crashing into stops on the first time I power it up.

Spindle
The Spindle on my model is the DC type. There is a neat little Spindle drive in my cabinet with a 0-10v input on it, so I imagine that might not be to difficult to get to work.

Spindle Encoder
Details on how to hook this up would be a great help. Clearly this will be needed for srewcutting.

Tool Changer
Ok, this is 'grey code' out put using 3 sensors to determing the position. I understand the turret is driven by 24v to a new position then the polarity is reversed and dropped to 12v to lock the position of the new tool. The 12v is kept applied until a new tool position is requested. This is all fine but how to connect all this to Mach3 and my breakout board is still a mystery. Can someone who has done this successfuly please help with the detailed info.

Enclosure
My plan is to use the same electronics that I use to run my router and mount them inside the LCB3 control box. That way I'm not buying extra stepper drives etc.

I'd be very grateful for anyone's help.

Kind regards to all

George

Tangent Corner / Re: Denford Orac problem

I'm sorry if multiple messages are coming in covering the same request. I haven't got the hang of posting yet.

I'm desperate for help with my Starturn5.
It works with it's original LCB3 controller.

I would like detailed info on the hookup of the Limit switches for X & Z axis. Also if anyone has succeded in getting the auto tool turret changer woking I woul like to have some hookup shematics.

The Denford forum is great and the guys are very helpful but I'm finding it a bit of a jungle right now with so much conflicting information.

I'm using MACH3 with a CNC4PC C11 board on my flatbed 3 axis router and would like to use the same electronics.

Any help at all would be most welcome.

Kind regards to all

George

marcel
Hi Marcel,

I have the Denford Starturn 5. I think it's the same toolchanger as the Orac. Can you tell me how you hook it up to MAch3. I use a CNC4PC breakout board.

Thanks

Hi,  Is there anyone out there who uses a Denford Orac with a toolchanger fitted. I have a tool vibration (chatter) problem and all attempts to sort it have failed.

I've been a (hand) machinist for some years but being new to CnC causes it's own problems as well but all the different speeds and feeds i've tried fail to stop it.
Hi CJ,
I would be grateful if you could share your schematic hook up of your Orac. Its much the same as my Starturn 5 and I would like details of home and limit, encoder output from the spindle and of course the hookup for the toolchanger.
Van you help?
Thanks
I've checked head bearings, tightened gib screws, toolchanger bearings, tool height etc,,

I'm using a TPUN (triangle) type insert tool and when cutting down a shoulder on a bar, the tip cuts fine until it gets to the end of cut and sets in heavy chatter.

I've tried other insert tools and the same problem occurs.

If anyone would like to add their words of wisdom it would be gladly appreciated.

Many Thanks..

General Mach Discussion / Re: Mach ? to control Starturn 5

Has anyone actually got the Starturn tool turret working with MAch3 yet?

I would like detailed info on how to do this if its available.

Denford forums are great and they have answered some of my questions but no one has actually said 'this is how it's done'.

I would be very grateful for any help.

Thanks

Hi Max,

Did you complete the conversion on the Starturn5 using Mach3.

I need some help to do the same job.

Any actual details on wiring the steppers and encoders would be helpful.
I already built a 3 axis CNC flatbed router, and want to use the same electronics package to control the Starturn5.

Many thanks
