I thought you guys might get a kick out of the heads i made for a model engine project. It is a V4 with 5/8 inch pistons.
In the picture you can see the original castings next to the billet heads. The valves are 1/4 inch. It is hard to see but I also made a fancy air cleaner with the name of the engine engraved in it. Peewee

General Mach Discussion / Re: A axis setup ?

I'm thinking also, if i get some software to engrave on a round surface, wont everything be upside down if A axis is reversed from "standard"?

Why not just get hooked up correctly the first time.

my 2 cents.

Thanks for the info. hope to be testing this axis in the next week or so.

What ever direction you want.
The thinking is that if there is a standard direction then i could comply and increase my chances of being able to pass off a piece of Gcode to someone else.

General Mach Discussion / A axis setup ?
« on: January 12, 2010, 06:24:49 PM »

If I set my rotary axis on the left side of the mill facing tward the spindle (standard deal) and have the axis at zero. If I give mach the old A10.00, will zero degrees rotate tward me or away from me. What is the standard direction of rotation.

I know a fellow who will convert shortly to mach 3. Can i get a copy of the pin setup that you are using after you get your x/y swapped? Might save some time figgerin it out.

G-Code, CAD, and CAM discussions / image to DXF

Anybody know of a program that will convert a picture (jpg, bmp, etc.)  to DXF. I used a program called Img2Dxf.exe and it worked very well for 30 days and then the trial was over. The $100 is a bit steep for the hobbyist. Anything out there that works good and is inexpensive or better yet, free.

I had no idea.

When i draw a part from this point on i can make the fillets a thou or two bigger than the cutter.

I did get the pattern cut today so i can get the parts poured. Going to be aluminum castings for a model aero engine.

Thanks again!!

No, you understood just fine. For some reason Lcam wont do things on this computer that others have no problem doing. I have been trying to do that simple offset for 3 days now. Lcam would offset to the inside but not the outside. I am very new so i have the latest version. Maybe i should look for a little bit older version of Lcam.

You did the offsetting right in auto cad?  Can autocad 2002 do that? If I could do simple things like that in cad it could have saved me alot of time.

Thank you so much!!

Steve
