LazyCam (Beta) / Bugatti Emblem cant get toolpath!
« on: February 10, 2010, 07:10:58 PM »
Could somebody help me out here. I am trying to cut this emblem and the pocket keeps cutting stuff i don't want to cut. I have tried to scale up to different sizes, leads off, rapids off, optimize, every trick in the book. Somebody care to take a shot? I need to pocket the inner oval so the logo and lettering will be raised.

I thought you guys might get a kick out of the heads i made for a model engine project. It is a V4 with 5/8 inch pistons.
In the picture you can see the original castings next to the billet heads. The valves are 1/4 inch. It is hard to see but I also made a fancy air cleaner with the name of the engine engraved in it. Peewee

General Mach Discussion / A axis setup ?
« on: January 12, 2010, 06:24:49 PM »

If I set my rotary axis on the left side of the mill facing tward the spindle (standard deal) and have the axis at zero. If I give mach the old A10.00, will zero degrees rotate tward me or away from me. What is the standard direction of rotation.

G-Code, CAD, and CAM discussions / image to DXF
« on: November 27, 2009, 09:40:00 PM »
Anybody know of a program that will convert a picture (jpg, bmp, etc.)  to DXF. I used a program called Img2Dxf.exe and it worked very well for 30 days and then the trial was over. The $100 is a bit steep for the hobbyist. Anything out there that works good and is inexpensive or better yet, free.

G-Code, CAD, and CAM discussions / Need help with an offset
« on: November 04, 2009, 05:10:16 PM »
I need to create an offset around the outside of this shape using a 1/8 inch cutter. I can offset the inside of the shape just not the outside. I have tried the usual tricks but I cannot lose the 0,0 point because i dont know how to get it back to exactly where it was.

Thanks in advance

Steve

G-Code, CAD, and CAM discussions / Need Lazycam pocketing help
« on: October 20, 2009, 07:15:40 PM »
I am trying to pocket this box and leave the funny shape in the center as an island. I did 2 similar shapes with no problem but this one is stubborn. I tried posting to mach and then loading it back. Sometimes it wont generate anything and sometimes it will ignore the funny shape and pocket the entire square.  The DXF is acad v12 I also tried scaling up 10X but that failed. Been at it for a few days.

Anybody feel like giving it a go? Know any tricks i havent tried?

Show"N"Tell ( What you have made with your CNC machine.) / My first project
« on: September 07, 2009, 11:53:44 AM »
Aint much but it did give me a reason to fire up the mill. It's a sort of variation on the turners cube. It is 2 inches square. It is the first thing that i ever tried to make using Lcam and mach 3. She aint perfect, but i'll keep it.

G-Code, CAD, and CAM discussions / Chains and entities question
« on: September 01, 2009, 08:22:57 PM »
Is it possible to take 4 entities out of a chain and create a new chain of those 4 entities. In the uploaded photo there is a thin strip that needs to be broken away from the outer chain.

Can this be done?

G-Code, CAD, and CAM discussions / Climb milling a pocket
« on: August 14, 2009, 05:49:28 PM »
I have spent a few days trying everything to get a square pocket to cut in a circular pattern in a CCW (climb mill) direction. I am using LazyCam 3.00.2. I have set everything to every setting and still no luck. I clicked CCW when creating the pocket. I tried the leadin "climb mill" dialog. I have read the Manual in the pocket section 3 or 4 times.

What am i missing? Is it just that LC can only conventional mill a pocket? It it a glitch in the newest version?

Thanks in advance.
