General Mach Discussion / Re: New and confused
« on: May 17, 2010, 05:04:21 PM »
Hi
have been running mach 3 turn for 9 months with great success
have just finished converting an X3 mill and is now working ok
but am finding it a bit difficult compared with the lathe
I will only post one problem at time
1st one is I cannot get my programme to change tools
I am at the moment writing my own g code
I have set all  my tool offsets into the table and am using G59 as my work offset 3 of the tools are in 7-8 and 9
when I call the tool in my programme by entering
G59  G43 H7
the dro with tool No doesn't change and the program uses the tool that was set up in the tool offset page
I must have done something wrong if anyone can help please
Colin

« on: March 28, 2010, 12:54:16 PM »
many thanks for your prompt reply hood
tried every thing but still the same
reloaded the old version again
it read the rpm but not on the program
then found it had lost my licence somehow
reloaded the licence
now every thing has returned to being a brilliant program
again thank you for your offer
I have just finished converting the mill and am trying to get to grips with mill programe so sure as hell will need some help in the future,
wish there was a mach3 for dummies
thank you

« on: March 21, 2010, 01:14:42 PM »
Hi all hope someone can help me
have been running mach3 turn screw cutting most days for about 9 months has been perfect no problems
I updated mach 3 with the latest version and now have no recognition of the spindle rpm
have  put the old version of mach3 back in still the same
deleted mach3 and reloaded I now have it reading the rpm exactly
but on running my program get fault (no spindle feed back on G95)
have even tried my main computer in the workshop but as that was the one that I downloaded the new version on same problem
would really appreciate some help
many thanks
Colin

Hi my name is Colin
have got interested in cnc after reading" model engineers workshop "they had converted lathe and mill. Having been in engineering one way and another all my life and had now retired decided to give it a go, and convert my lathe which is a 1956 harrison  11" swing 48" bed.
the mechanics have been no problem but building the electronics (not the pcb's) gave me a few headaches but now it is up and running am over the moon with it.
still sorting a few problems like making new tool posts and drill /boring attachments fitted to the cross slide.
mach3 is an unknown to me but very slowly getting there can write the g code for turning facing etc the threading wizard ok but arcs are a complete mystery. and as for the terminology I am baffled to say the least.
Won't bore you any more as I will be putting my problems on the forum.
all the help to get me where I am to date has come from my suppliers mainly Roy at DIYCNC my thanks to  to this gentleman.
thats it for now
Colin
