General Mach Discussion / New Parallel Port not working

I installed a parallel port card and I can not get Mach to communicate with my machine. I took some pics of my driver setting in Windows, anybody see anything wrong?

General Mach Discussion / kernel speed and new PC
« on: September 25, 2010, 01:51:25 AM »
I was just reading through some of the older posts and came across this thread:

http://www.machsupport.com/forum/index.php/topic,15647.0.html

There are a few points brought up here that I wonder if I should use or pay attention to. generatorlabs said that they had problems using a Dell computer which is what my old computer that I was using up until I had a glitch. My new computer is a HP that I had to install a parallel port in. I'm wondering if this computer was not a good choice for running Mach. Also I am using 203Vs which are 10x microstepping, should I set my kernel speed to 35000Hz like simpson36 suggests?

Also Steve at PMDX was a huge help in trying to determine the source of my problem as well a number of members here on the forum.

Don't you have to activate a Brain Control?

The motors have made a difference, the machine seems to be smoother and I just cut a large pocket 10" x 9.25", I used a 2 flute .500 end mill, .006 cut, 40 IPM, 50% stepover, the cut was extremely smooth and consistent. Well, up until my Smoothstepper lost communication with Mach. This happened 3 times in a row, so I installed my new parallel port card and could not get any movement. I got out the old PC that I was using a few weeks ago that was giving me some problems. I managed to get through the project, but there where 3 times that I saw steps lost. I was able to get back on track and get the job done, but I had to work until very early in the morning. I need to get my new PC running, I still have one job that I have to get done by Monday. Hopefully I can find the mistake that I made and get back on track. The port address is something weird like cc00. Back to the motors, the new motors did heat up to 126 degrees, but they would cool down. If anybody is interested I got them at www.anaheimautomation.com. I paid $245 for a Nema 42 motor.

I will give that a try, it's been a really long stressful week. I wasn't thinking about the folder still existing. Thanks, Ron

I already switched out that computer, I'll have to hook it up in a bit. I did go to where you showed me to get the pp address, if I remember it was cc00. I know my settings are in my xml file, but shouldn't that be deleted when I remove Mach from my programs?

General Mach Discussion / PC built exclusively to run a CNC machine
« on: September 23, 2010, 11:27:52 PM »
Does anybody make a PC that is designed solely to run a CNC? I want t buy a PC that doesn't have all of the other crap that you get when you get one from the big box stores. I'd like to have something that can hold up. I have had nothing put PC problems the last two weeks, including a new PC acting up. I'm currently running my old PC to finish a job and I have seen it "stumble" three time in 36 minutes. I need to get something reliable or I will have to replace my current mill.
