I balance crankshafts.

Ended up buying a vibration analyzer on Ebay, Balmac model. 2 plane with strobe. Then just built my own holding fixture.

An oscilliscope will give you way to much noise from what I was told, I looked into that a bit.

Try and get ahold of a manual for one of the commercial vibration analyzers... very informative.

What are you going to try and balance?

Crankshafts? What size motors?

General Mach Discussion / Re: Any Microscribe users in here?

Good catch! You're exactly right!

I did that, it now saves... but Rhino isn't recognizing the change.

It's a txt based .dat file. You change it in Notepad, save it... then Rhino is supposed to go to that .dat file for the dimensions when using the digitizer.

Even though it's now saved and changed it doesn't make a difference.

General Mach Discussion / Any Microscribe users in here?
« on: April 24, 2010, 01:11:37 PM »
Sorry, I know this is probably the wrong forum, but I'm desperate! (Microscribe is a portable CMM device)

I'm using my Microscribe in Rhino4.

I know how to find the mstip.dat file, change my delta 5 to the correct number, but when I try and save the change it says it's a read only file and can't be saved.

What am I doing wrong to let Rhino know the correct non standard tip length that I want to use?

Help please! trying to get this project finished!

How many axis does Jcode support?

Look into Madcam. It's Rhino based and supposedly very good.

I'm going the Madcam route in a few months.

G-Code, CAD, and CAM discussions / Rhino for cad and Madcam for cam

http://www.madcamcnc.com/start_page.html

This is the set-up I think I'm going to end up with for my 5 axis build.

I have a microscribe digitising arm, Rhino4.. now just need to purchase this Madcam. I had the demo but let it expire before really getting to play with it because I was learning Rhino and the Microscribe.

It's a 3+2 right now... but rumors of full simultaneous 5axis is very soon. Maybe even within a couple of months.

There's a guy on CNCzone that uses this in a production machine shop and he says this is almost comparable to his $20k programs!

anyone see this heeks cad and cam? Free opensource software.

I think it supports 5 axis... maybe even 6?

Just google heekscnc or heekscad or http://code.google.com/p/heekscnc/

What do you guys think?

General Mach Discussion / Re: changing out bits but keeping bit length...
« on: January 28, 2010, 11:37:30 PM »
Kind of ghetto, but I sanded down a bit holder tube so I can but it on the bit and push it into the collect, and it'll rest on the surface of the collet at 35mm length for the bit.  I tested it with several different bits and they all end up being 35mm, or very close to it.  Is that the kind of thing people do to change things out?  I think I should probably machine a real tube/holder for this using aluminum, but this was damn easy to do as a test.

Barry

That's what I am planning on doing.

Is this 5 axis a wood machine or metal?  What CAM you using?

Post some pics, I'm building a 5 axis metal with a trunion and like to see what others are doing.

Good luck with Tormach giving you a post...

I was ready to buy a machine..called Tormach, asked if They could put in a 5axis driver for me... before I got it out of my mouth guy said no, won't work. Asked a couple of other questions and he said no before I got it outa my mouth again.

Bought an Industrial Hobbies machine all prewired and set-up for 5axis. And IH is available with help all the time. It took a little longer to get the mill built but worth it.

If you haven't bought the Tormach yet, give Industrial Hobbies a call!
